Tesla recruits Toyota manufacturing executive for U.S. mass-production auto plant
As Tesla Motors prepares to build its first mass-production auto plant and enter the family sedan business, it has decided to appoint a top Toyota manufacturing executive to head its factory plans in California.

The electric vehicle maker hired Gilbert Passin, the general manager of production engineering for Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America’s West Coast operations. Passin had been stationed at Toyota’s soon-to-close Corolla and Tacoma pickup plant in Fremont, Calif., New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. Previously, Passin served as vice president of manufacturing at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc.
