Flame war in 3...2...1...

Why does it always have to be "is this is better than that"? Audi, MB and BMW cater to different types of luxury car buyers. To say to someone after say they purchased an Audi that "the BMW are better" is stupid. To that person the Audi is better (better AWD systems for one) and in reality that is all that really matters.

But for some reason some folks here believe that their personal preference supersedes someone else's personal preference. Hence the constant flame wars here. FWIW the only vehicles that I like out of the 3 makes mentioned is the Audi S4 and the BMW M3. BMW, Audi and MB doesn't really make the types of vehicles that I like.

Competition between car companies is a great thing, because it (hopefully) motivates each manufacturer to create something a lot better than the status quo, so they end up busting their collective butts to make better and better vehicles. Great!

The problem is, how do you define "better"? Lexus measures it in low defect numbers and in the apparent level of luxury. BMW measures it in what they believe is the perfect balance between sportiness and luxury in an "every day" car, with a definite lean towards sportiness. Each manufacturer sees "better" a different way.

Pissing wars between this list's members, on the other hand, are completely non-productive. Like "LexSucks" says, each argument boils down to "my entirely subjective opinion in better than your entirely subjective opinion, because I believe my rationalization is correct and yours is wrong."

The A8 may not do well here in the States, but globally, the A8 has always done VERY well against it's German rivals.. especially in TDi and V12 form... it owns the market share.

Better is a personal definition...what is the best for me could be the worst for others, so I respect the diferent opinions and talk about cars cause I enjoy to do that. Audi..good BMW good....MB good....Cadillac good...Porsche good....pick the one that make you fell happy and forget the general opinion of the world..you only live once..be happy.

I feel the new 2011 Audi A8 will be a HUGE seller for the brand. This A8, moreso than any previous A8, covers all the bases from technology, design, luxury, comfort, and driving dynamics. Previously the A8 always lacked some of the luxury features its BMW 7-series and Mercedes-Benz S-class rivals offered (night vision, heated/cooled/massaged front and rear seats, sportier handling). However, with the 2011 A8, Audi provides all the luxury features previously mentioned plus adds the nifty hand-recognition MMI Touch, innovative LED lighting and a host of other luxury gadgets.

The handling is vastly improved and the design is unmistakeably Audi with everything from the large single-frame grille, to the LED headlights, to the rear lights, etc. The interior is once again top-notch, as we have come to expect from Audi.

Overall, a brilliant car that will give Audi's A8 more marketshare in its class than ever before both in the United States and globally.

The current A8L has heated/cooled/vented/massage front and rear seats with fully adjustable rear seats with an entertainment system to boot.

"If Audi ends up making good on its lofty goal of toppling both Mercedes-Benz and BMW in the U.S. market, its all-new A8 is likely to be more than partially responsible for the feat."

Please, they are no where near BMW, Lexus or Mercedes in North America for sales let alone counting on the A8 to lead the way. Nice car but what would convince someone to spend $90,000 on this versus the others?

Because certain colors show off all the subtle detail lines better than others. The D4 A8 does look awesome in black in person..unfortunately..a lot of the characeter lines would be lost in photos though.

And residuals or resale value too, at least in the US.

Audi better hope it can get the folks with money to spend it. I would, if I did, but on the S8.
