2010 Chicago Auto Show: Honda's Odyssey Concept - Is This The Weirdest 'KINK' In History?

2010 Chicago Auto Show: Honda's Odyssey Concept - Is This The Weirdest 'KINK' In History?
Although minivans have never been considered the creme de la creme of vehicles, you have to admit one thing: they're terrifically comfortable and they provide endless amounts of utility.

With that said, it seems that companies are starting to think about the box and spruce it up a bit. What's this entail? The all-new 2011 Toyota Sienna has a sport trim. Sport? Minivan? Whatever, Edmunds has said that this is "...maybe how all minivans should drive."

So, if that gives us any hint at how good it is, Honda has to step up its game, big time.

Now Honda has unveiled a new Odyssey concept and it looks pretty good. Much better than their other offerings. Sort of weird to think their minivan is their best looking new car at the moment.

The most interesting thing about the concept is its "reverse kink." It is a much better interpretation than the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, which seems to come together quite awkwardly.

More importantly, what are your opinions on the latest van from Honda? Two thumbs up? Two thumbs down?

Let us know in the comments below.

Remember, spy before you buy!

This concept looks great and I'm surprised by how much I like the 'thunderbolt' beltline - because it is indeed a bit awkward on the Genesis Coupe. From all the reviews I have read - it looks like a winner - hope the production model does not stray from the concept too much because this is a clean, refreshing design.

Btw, the current Odyssey is still the van to get if you actually enjoy driving (and have to get a minivan). I have no doubt the new Odyssey will put even further distance between itself and its competitors - despite Toyota's good attempt.

you must work for GM.... haha... If you like the current Odyssey, then why in the heck wouldn't you like this new sleeker version? *perplexed*

It's kind of mean to the kids, making it even harder for them to try to see out. No wonder they spend the whole time watching Disney DVDs...they can't look out anyway.

I'm waiting for the car that they make without side windows at all. At about an inch a year, 2020 should be the rollout.

Pretty hot for a minivan. I like it.

The taillights remind me of the Mitsubishi Endeavor.

I don't like cars like this - quirky yet bland. How the heck did they manage to do that?! What this Odyssey really needs to still have a chance in the minivan market is to be better than the Sienna but cheaper - ottoman, comfy seats, fold flat seats, seats easy for old people to access... The Sienna is a winner to me because I have this weird desire to own one because of its "cool" features and tasteful faux wood.

Nice, Honda actually did not screw this one up. Hard to think of any other Mini vans that look better.

Don't worry. It's a Honda. It will sell, especially with the UIA problems with Toyota. Airbag recall is nothing compared to the UIA issue. Name one company that does not have airbag TSB or recall?
UIA? Not so much. There was Audi, then, there is Toyota.
As ugly as the Pilot, it still sells like a hotcake (more than Highlander, for sure).

Very poor looking concept. From the rear it looks like they grafted another vehicle on the back. Honda can do better design work.

Honda (Acura in my experience) seems to be suffering from a lot quality problems lately. Having a lot of problems on the MDX. Recommend stay away.

remarkably fresh for a minivan, a cleen design. honda once was known for it's cleen and clear design language. if only Honda (and, even more so, acura) could get back to this with their sedans...

This look like an update to the current JDM Odyssey, which IMO, looks much better then the version we have here in the States. I'm glad they're finally bringing over this styling to the minivan.

The reason people drive minivans if for the extra space, this looks like it has shrunk? Can you fit a cooler behind the third row? looking pretty tight, Honda has always been the class leader for mini Vans, lets hope it stays that way, and yes I would rather own an suv if it could carry the same amount of people and gear with the same mileage.

It looks pretty good, but I like the "bullet train" look of the 2010 Sienna SE. Being a new dad, my wife has given me notice that we need to give up the Aviator and get something more practical...I will miss the horsepower, but not the poor gas mileage.

I do hope they come out with a sporting version that will seat 8 if needed, otherwise it will be the Sienna SE for me!
