Wishful Thinking? Chrysler CEO Says They Need To Emulate Apple
Chrysler Group, known as the inventor of the minivan and SUV, aspires to regain its own spirit of innovation by emulating Apple Computer.

That was the vision for Chrysler's future outlined by Ralph Gilles, Chrysler's chief design officer and the CEO of the Dodge brand, in a speech today. Gilles said his hero is Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO.

Emulate Apple means making overpriced, disposable/non repairable/upgradeable vehicles?

LOL - You say as I type on a Macbook pro that has been self upgraded, looking at a mac mini that has been self upgraded that synced to an ancient iPod that just had the battery replaced. All without using magic unicorn tears to get them going again. So much for the non upgradeable or repairable.

Uh oh...
Agent001 "was the (former?)... Technical Advisor to the President of Apple Computer Canada." The editor-in-chief of AutoBlog is also a Mac user.

I'm personally a VAIO fan and love the newest Z - carbon fiber shell and an aluminum chassis milled from a single sheet of aluminum, something a car fan like me really wants, especially since the description matches the LFA. Oh... and both Sony and Lexus also have great customer service.

WorldofLuxury...at home, I will only use my Vaio desktop that I bought back in 2003. This is the best computer I've ever owned. I hate the fact that the closest thing Sony makes to a true desktop now are those nut-less all-in-ones.

Sony has horrible customer service. I've bought stuff from the sony store which didn't work when I opened the box. When I brought back their defective product I couldn't get a refund or even a replacement product.

From a marketing standpoint this could be good, but if all it means is resting on your laurels, bringing out products that offer few industry standard features (in Apple's case USB ports, media card readers, webcams, numeric keypads, BD opticals, etc.), then charging exorbitant prices, locking them down completely into silly 'money grubbing' ecosystems, and proclaiming them 'MAGICAL' - then NO!

Then I won’t be buying Chrysler products just like I don’t purchase any Apple Products. Apple represents Mass Stupidity at its highest levels.

Chrysler should simply try to be as good as the Old Chrysler.

Regardless of what you think about their product, as a business, Apple definitely gets it. With the exception of Google and Microsoft, what other American tech companies can boast such comparable profits?

This wouldn't fly at all for a big auto manufacturer. To actually pull this off:

- Pull the plug on all models and all design resources would go into a single model.
- The model would have minimal features because it takes too much time to get each one right.
- No design committees or trade show concepts would be shown, it would all be top secret.
- It would be priced 40% higher than anything else in its class. People would say, man, those linear rain wipers are amazing...but how come it doesn't have NAV?

Sure, there are lessons from Apple...but not directly for many industries.

Then Chrysler would need a Leader as "Charismatic" as Steve Jobs...and a like Management Style wouldn't Hurt..

"You people have 48 hours to fix this before I come down there and CHOKE THE LIVING SHIT OUT EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU...Have a nice day, Steve"
