2010 Chicago Auto Show: Is The Ford Edge Sport A Porsche Cayenne Fanboi?

2010 Chicago Auto Show: Is The Ford Edge Sport A Porsche Cayenne Fanboi?
You know, there are plenty of mysteries throughout the world. Take, for instance, the seven wonders of the world.

Well, I have just stumbled upon the eighth.

After getting a bit more intimate with the revamped 2011 Ford Edge, I must say I do find it compelling. Its new face seems to work for me and the updated interior featuring MyFord Touch is remarkably good. In my opinion it easily surges past the competition.

With that said, there is something about it that I cannot quite explain that I really like about the styling of this particular Ford Edge Sport. The color, rims and proportions work very well together in this instance.

But when proding around for some good photographs, 001 and I realized something intriguing. From the B-pillar back, it draws plenty of cues from the Porsche Cayenne.

Look at its proportions, especially the short rear overhang. Additionally, the rear spoiler on the hatch seems to channel some more Cayenne as well.

Do you guys agree OR do you believe we need to get a new set of glasses? What's it going to be, Spies?

Go with the glasses. This is better looking than a Cayenne. I think you guys are German car Fanbois.

Although I will say the Cayenne is not the most attractive vehicle, the Edge Sport is not nearly as good looking as a Porsche Cayenne GTS.

No way, no how.

Better than the previous model, but I'll wait to see it in person. Fords do tend to look prettier in pictures.

"From the B-pillar back, it draws plenty of cues from the Porsche Cayenne."

No - It Doesn't

That Is All

Not every car needs 12.1 or 14" discs to be functional. I would be curious however to see the difference in stopping distances with the new model vs. the old as there were many complaints about the brakes not being fully up to the task for the weight of the vehicle.

I agree if you looking from side as in photos, from C pillars backwards it does look a bit like Cayenne.
BTW the front end is very bad and ford have ruined it, if you suppose headlights as eyes, the face looks like that of a mummy wrapped with tape or a thief hiding face with a black mask.

The Ford Edge a Porsche Cayenne Fanboi?? Seriously. We are comparing a Cayenne full size SUV to a Ford crossover? You gotta be kidding me. This is worse than the Hyundai comparisons to Lexus and Land Rover commercials. Did you count the cupholders? Who wins?

How about instead of chalking up the new Edge to a Porsche you give us a full review. Ford has the new Edge, a new Explorer coming out, Ford Transit Connect just got TOTY, and the new Fiesta is out, along with a new Focus. And the only article I see is "Hey the B pillar back looks like a Porsche."

WTF?

That HUGE grill ruins whatever else you might find attractive.
