STUD or DUD: Is THIS What You Want To See As The Next-Gen Infiniti QX56?

STUD or DUD: Is THIS What You Want To See As The Next-Gen Infiniti QX56?
Carscoop reports:

"The brand-new, seventh generation of the Nissan Patrol had its world premiere in Abu Dhabi on Sunday. The Japanese firm claims that the 2011 model year of its Toyota Land Cruiser rival builds on its history as one of the most capable 4x4s in the market adding a more modern design, enhanced interior comfort and luxury as well as a more powerful V8 powerplant to the equation.

Nissan's product design director, Taiji Toyota (how ironic...), tells us that the Patrol's all-new exterior design, which was previewed by the 2006 Terranaut Concept, is less rugged and more upscale.

"Not as edgy and hardcore as its predecessor, the softer new surfaces are beautiful and add a sense of modernity to the design equation, while still maintaining a ruggedness and commanding road presence" he said.

In similar fashion, the new Patrol's interior is a much more luxurious place to be with the company claiming that since most customers spend less than 15% of the time off-road, it wanted to create "a better, higher quality interior for the whole family".

That translates to a more premium design..."

The Patrol is a nice car and in the middle east it is very popular...But this new one is without a doubt disappointing, they tried to go the Land Cruiser route and it didnt pay off...

they take the Armada and make it into a toyota Sequoia by the way the Sequoia looks way better than this third world nation crap. it looks like something the dignitaries from the carribean would use

"Third world nation crap"? The Patrol is far more advanced than the Armada. It is also used by the UN.

The Armada/QX56 is a US-only Titan based SUV

Stupid, because (1) there should be no Aramada and (2) the QX56 should have been based off the Patrol to begin with because it's comparable to a Land Cruiser (luxurious and capable)

I disagree.
The current QX56 is plain ugly, a turn-off.
This new one I can live with.
Bravo, Nissan/Infiniti.

Forget the truck for a minute...what the heck was that nose bumping that went on at timestamp 0:12?!? Dudes...no. Anyway...the truck...the Patrol...I haven't liked them in years. Doesn't seem likely for me to start anytime soon, either. Oh well...moving on...

The nose bumping was the best part, the rest of the show showed how money can sway ignorant people into thinking they are good, maybe they would have liked it more if there were some burlesque dancers? The old Patrol was an off road king, this is a princess, I guarantee there is no more than 8.5 inches of front wheel travel! For all the princesses that want a car like suv go buy one, its too bad vehicles like the Land Cruiser and this have been transformed into princesses.Very disapointed.

The QX is going to look distinctively different than that.

Nissan should have kept the old Patrol and made it more efficient, powerful and even better off road, this will be a nice SUV with all that power, but they should just call it something else so that they don't offend the off road crowd.Maybe the Patrol two? Or something to suggest an upscale suv. The more crap I see the more I want to make my own 4x4.

The new QX has already been previed and it looks basically identical to the patrol except a new front and rear end. Which isnt a bad thing I like this new patrol it has a clean, modern, upscale look to it inside and out. Interior of shots of the patrol are here www.carscoop.blogspot.com,
http://www.automotiveaddicts.com/tag/infiniti-qx56 this link is the new qx

The part about this new Patrol that is bad is that it gave up a lot of it's off road ability and became a completely different vehicle, although a very nice suv but drastically different! The older Patrol earned the title an off road legend, now its just a name, I have a problem with that, there should be two different vehicles, one for luxury and one for off road ability.

I like it as an Infiniti and as a Nissan. The major competitive advantage this will have over the Land Cruiser is MORE room in the back seat AND THE 3RD ROW ADULTS CAN USE, NOT JUST CHILDREN! Plus Nissan's and infinti's price point is a LOT CHEAPER. The New Land Cruiser is 73 grand and the Lexus Lx570 is 80-83 Grand after options, this will be under 70 as a Lexus and under 60 as a Nissan for basically the same kind of truck. Wat advantage does Lexus have? Crawl control but with open Diffs's thats all B/S unless you have true locking rear diffs anyway.

Agree with truckman completely. Now seems like Nissan wants to target both enthusiasts and families. They should have gone Toyota route, as Toyota name the family oriented Land Cruiser as Land Cruiser Prado so why not name this SUV as a version of patrol. This looks like Mitusbishi Pajero/Montero to me.

BTW here in Middle East, Land Cruiser and Patrol will always sell as long as they keep offering the same thing which is the best overall offroad experience. Styling and even some expected options in this price range don't matter to 85% of these SUVs buyers. And looking at the specifications and nice 400BHP V8 i think we won't be disappointed in at least the driving part.
