Who Have They Left Off This List? KBB Picks The Top 10 Family Cars For 2010
The Top 10 Family Cars for 2010 today were named by the expert editors from Kelley Blue Book, www.kbb.com, the leading provider of new car and used car information. In the list, the kbb.com editors recommend what they feel are the very best of the best vehicles for families this year, highlighting specific important attributes for each car and detailing why it made the Top 10 for 2010.

If safe, roomy and affordable are the characteristics that qualify a vehicle as a family car, then the American family has never had so many choices. While a sea of options is ultimately a good thing, it can also make it more difficult for families to pick a winner. To help ease the pain, every year Kelley Blue Book's kbb.com assembles a list of the Top 10 New Family Cars, evaluating an ever-lengthening list of eligible vehicles on such factors as resale value, fuel efficiency, capability and kid-friendliness. This year's list features vehicles in a range of sizes and prices, offering something for a wide variety of families – everything from an SUV that can comfortably accommodate nine passengers to a compact, fuel-efficient wagon capable of taking the road less traveled.

"While the product landscape in the new-car world seems ever-changing, the vehicle needs of the typical American family remain fairly constant; capable versatility, value, safety and economical factors usually remain top-of-mind," said Jack R. Nerad, executive editorial director and executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book's kbb.com. "There are many competent choices available on the market today, but the kbb.com editors chose a wide variety of what we feel are the Top 10 Family Cars that should be on every family's consideration list for 2010."

3 Ford's on the list and I agree with them all. Nice!

Although I am not so sure about the articles reference of kbb "kbb.com, the leading provider of new car and used car information." If anything they are way off because the information they reflect are not real world when it comes to trade-in. They are WAY high as no dealer in their right mind would ever give you what they quote off that site. The ADA yellow book is what they use.

2010 Chevy Suburban? Isn't that behemoth as reliable as a 1986 Range Rover?

What about all the problems they are having with the gearbox? What about electrical glitches?

Not at all, very reliable. As a matter of fact, the reason it's so reliable is because they have not made it "hi tech" - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. It's the perfect car to have if you don't care about efficiency and just want something that's:
1. easy to maintain
2. cheap to fix
3. cheap parts
4. easy repair by any fool mechanic
5. seats 8 adults for a tolerable 8 hour ride
6. perfect for camping/skiing/getting dirty off the beaten path
7. great towing capacity

No minivan or cross-over comes close to what the suburban offers a large family whose activities include camping, long drives, towing.

Consumer Reports said the new GM900 vehicles are all not reliable. Edmunds had to replace their gearbox in their tahoo!

pennfootball, Did you seriously just quote Consumer's Reports as a valid source of information?

Other problems with Suburban it is a 6000 pound truck with only 13 inch front brakes and 2 piston caliper rotors! Also...The front end has no crumple zones as the front fender hangs on to the body with little mettle rods. There is no structure built into the fenders for crash protection. It only has a 4 speed automatic Transmission standard for crying outloud. Good truck my ass!

Again, there are very few alternatives to what the Suburban offers. Seats 8, AWD and tows a boat? Good luck with that.

What about the Nissan Armada and Toyota Sequoia People? They all have 5 and 6 speed gearboxes and better crash safety with built in crumple zones! PLUS THEY HAVE BIGGER BRAKES and offers a large family whose activities include camping, long drives, towing.

comparing the relative modern tech and reliability, the Sequoia and Armada make the suburban seem like an old covered wagon!

The GM Suburban and Tahoe may only have 4 speeds but they get better gas mileage than the models you listed. What does that say to you?

Also the GM twins and the Sequoia both recieve good marks by the IIHS.

As for brake size, who cares this vehicle isn't going to be racing around a track. It does the job very well for towing applications. Also when tested for 60-0 the Tahoe police edition stops in 143 feet compared to 142 for the Crown Victoria, 144 for the Impala, and 135 for the Charger.

Seriously why don't you research instead of comparing specs on paper?

I'd replace those four with: Toyota Camry, Honda Pilot, Mazda 5, Toyota Sienna.

I love my Toyota Sienna, and although the Odyssey is sportier, the Sienna is far more reliable. Our weekly gathering of family/friends is also a time to gripe about our cars, and 3 of my friends with Odysseys have been very unhappy with the repairs (transmission, auto-door, suspension), and all 3 of them are now Sienna owners.

I am not anti american I have a jeep Wrangler Rubicon, love the Ford Edge coming out in 2011 and hate every thing GM makes accept the Corvette and the Buick Lacrosse and new Regal! The GM pickup is a joke compared to the quality of the F-150 and Dodge! It just has a big motor and more power then the ford, and it STILL HAS A 4 SPEED GEARBOX! THAT IS AWFUL
