Porsche Panamera to get 30 MPG!!!!!!! With its V6 version!!!!

Panamera: the budget edition
For all you eco- and wallet-conscious potential Panamera customers, Porsche has announced a green, budget, entry-level edition of its four-door super-thingy.

Set to arrive in June, it'll be called the Panamera Gran Turismo and will be powered by a 3.6-litre V6 developing an almost-green 296bhp and 296lb ft of torque.

Is it interesting that Porsche has decided to equip the Panamera with a V6 - a la Cayenne - instead of a 911-derived flat-six? We're not sure. Either way, although the Panamera's new engine shares its displacement with the smallest unit in the Cayenne line-up, Porsche is describing the direct-injection V6 as 'all new'.

It'll come with Porsche's 'PDK' double-clutch gearbox and stop-start technology as standard, and return 30.4mpg and a respectable 221g/km of CO2 in rear-wheel drive guise. Both figures drop slightly for the four-wheel drive variant. No, not drop, because the CO2 figure rises. Worsen. Disimprove. Something like that.

The Panamera Gran Turismo will start at £61,461 when it goes on sale this summer. Or, er, £80,000 less than its four-door supercar sort-of-rival, the Aston Rapide. Interesting

I think the hybrid version will be more interesting, probably more power and better mileage. But I'm sure it will be more spendy too.

the Panamera will not be rated at 30mpg here in the U.S. The article is talking about the European cycle (which is always higher than here) AND it's using British gallons (which are larger than U.S. gallons, and thus, you can drive more miles per gallon). Expect a 16/24 type rating here.

Not bad for a car that weighs 3900lbs, too bad it has under 300hp.

Wow, 296-horsepower are sooooooo underpowered...

It's a Porsche, and look at the price of this Porsche, it might be ok if the car was $50,000.

Joe, I honestly wish this car had been priced similarly to the Cayenne, with a base model under 60K. Unfortunately, and at odds with the economy, I guess they just wanted to build/sell less of them and make them "exclusive." Bummer.

Willis,

"Wow, 296-horsepower are sooooooo underpowered..."

That depends on how much the vehicle weighs.

Heavy car + 296hp engine = Tepid performance

Light car + 296hp engine = Nice performance.

HP and performance isn't a 1:1 relationship.

I would speculate that the new I-6 turbo BMW 5 series would come out on top in a battle of the 6-cylinder executive sedans. It's one thing if the Panamera was made to go after the M5, but I don't believe the V6 is good enough to justify driving such an unattractive car.

Agree in 500BHP category there are less 4 door options so Panamera turbo is okay but there are lot of sedans in 300BHP category so who wants this overpriced and ugly porsche?
Also more rivals like new CLS and A7 are on the way which will make it even tougher for V6 Porsche.

Trust me...that option won't last very long...someone at Porsche marketing really screwed this one up!

It will sell. The folks who would purchase a 4-door porsche arnen't looking for supreme performance, just the name. Porsche seems to be going down the MB/BMW/Lexus route. Offering cars that don't really perform, but are cheaper than thier higher priced offerings. The people who would be interested don't really know (or care) about performance, all they know about is the name. Smart move if porsche want to expand, bad move for the loyalist and brand image. Vehicles like the V6 panamera dillutes the Porsche brand IMO.
