Infiniti Starts Slinging Diesels Overseas, Should They Bring Them To The U.S.?
Infiniti is now hopping on the diesel wave. But, the question is, would you get one?

I mean, why not? We have seen Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Volkswagen come together with diesel offerings and do well in America. The whole diesel stipulation that once was has seemingly been put to rest.

Do you think if Infiniti made an effort to offer diesels in the U.S. they would be successful like the other brands? And, would you be interested?

Autocar reports:

"Infiniti EX and FX models are now available to order with a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine, the first time a diesel engine has ever appeared in Infiniti’s 20-year history.

The 235bhp, 406lb ft direct-injection engine will also feature in the firm’s new M saloon, due to go on sale later this year.

The engine helps the EX30d get from 0-62mph in 7.9sec and the FX30d covers the same distance in 8.3sec..."

Diesel engines, while an absolute must option in Europe, are still not that desirable here in the states. Americans still seem to prefer gas engines and don't fully understand the benefit of diesel.

Although this was true two years ago, things have begun to change.

Look into Audi TDI sales and VW TDI sales and you will see what I mean.

Something tells me those diesels Infiniti is offering won't drive sales into the air. They need a more diversified engine portfolio for Europe and that includes SMALLER diesels and gasoline engines. As far as I know cars like the 530d/535d and E320 CDI aren't exactly big sellers. It's the versions with the smaller diesels that sell well because they combine good performance with great gas mileage and have acceptable running costs to boot.
