2010 Mercedes-Benz C180 CDI: entry-level in style
With the rising of the eco trend among consumers and the global economic crisis, automotive carmakers have begun to offer less expensive and more economical entry-level versions for several vehicles in their line-ups.

Take the German medium diesel saloon class for example. Audi had introduced a 120 hp version as an entry-level model for the diesel A4 range. BMW did the same and brought the 115 hp 316d model to the market. Mercedes-Benz follows suit with the introduction of the new 120 hp C180 CDI model. Notably, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class C180 CDI has the same 2.1 liter engine from its bigger brothers, but the carmaker has electronically downtuned it to generate 120 HP.

What on earth are you talking about?

This car will never reach the US and it is perfectly fine for Europe. People who want a premium car with an emphasis on fuel economy will find it appealing. That's all there is to it.

And there's nothing wrong with offering one engine with different power outputs courtesy of "electronically detuning". Mercedes has the C180 CDI, C200 CDI, C220 CDI and the C250 CDI who all use the same 2.1-l 4-cylinder diesel with different power outputs.
