LEAKED! Audi's RS5 Finally Makes An Appearance, Will This Be An M3 Killer?

LEAKED! Audi's RS5 Finally Makes An Appearance, Will This Be An M3 Killer?
Although we have absolutely NO details on the specifications of the car, these images were leaked out this morning.

Aren't you getting tired of these "agency leaks?"

Regardless, this is the new uber Audi and will certainly be a match for BMW's 400-horsepower M3.

What I cannot seem to figure out is if Audi will drop in that bi-turbo V10 seen in the RS6 or if they will go with a more conservative V8 powerplant.

Stick around for more details as Geneva approaches...

Carscoop reports:

"A German agency appears to have mistakenly released the official brochure of the new Audi RS5 Coupe ahead of time as the car's world premiere isn't due for another week or so at the Geneva Motor Show on March 2.

The high-resolution photos from the leaflet show that the RS5 Coupe gets its own unique body treatment to differentiate it from the less powerful S5 Coupe.

Look closely and you'll be able to spot the slightly blistered wheel arches that hark back to the original Quattro coupe, the new front bumper with larger air vents at each corner, the honeycomb grille without the horizontal bar, the redesigned rear bumper with an integrated diffuser and the two large oval tail pipes..."

This "article" is unreadable. It wouldn't get past a 2nd grade teacher without being covered in read ink. Pathetic.

This car is absolutely gorgeous! Those black/red seats look good enough to eat! This would be the car in the price range I would get over the M3 without question.

Looking Good!. Bring to this vehicle to the USA AoA!!! It'd should sell pretty good with the proper pricing (tad more than an M3 and less than M5).

The red with the Black optics looks good. Nice interior with red trim on seats. Hope AoA learned from that the lack of these Recaro's absent in the B7 RS4 in the USA should be offered as an option for the USA market (wishing the car brought across the pond by AoA for sale).

In a few more days (embargo should be lifted soon based on info. on the web) we should have additional specifications (Engine etc.)

Again, nice looking coupe. Good job Audi. This looks sporty and elegant at the same time.

Took another look. Without knowing the engine specs yet, I'm digging the looks of this vehicle and would without doubt purchase/lease one. We'll see what direction AoA take with pricing.

Nice Audi... however I really think they are just so FAR behind AMG and ///M with the RS line so sporadically available and not even in North America. I really have a lot of catching up to do, this should help. Curious about how this will be priced.

I understand fully what your saying lol,but its pretty obvious Audi is going to go head to head with the M3 coupe.

Vladyxa, are you really that clueless? Would YOU spend years developing a car to compete with the M3 and then give it LESS than 400hp? Didn't think so mate.....

Just by looking at the Picture of the Rev Counter i would wager that it would be a NA Engine. {8+K Redline}

Turbocharged/Supercharged Engines tend not to go over 6-7K.

Unless Audi is going to drop a Bombshell and Unveil the First Highly Durable High Revving Turbo.

Front grille and bumper design look a lot like TT-RS. I like the aggressive rear end retractable spoiler.

Bottom line is the car eats the M3 in the looks department. I'm gonna put my bet on the Audi being a hair quicker but losing on the track and overall feel.

i'd like to wait and see. nearly every car from audi/lexus/infiniti claims to be the car that's going to kill the 3-series/M3/5-series etc. history shows that the odds are on BMW's side.

GermanNutGermanNut - 2/21/2010 12:57:53 PM

Wow! what a hot car. Enthusiast the only exception is that Infiniti, and Lexus have not come nearly as close as Audi's RS4 to besting the M3. With more horsepowe than the RS4, less weight, potentially better dynamics, etc. this RS5 may just trump the M3.

Look for the next generation of RS cars with less weight, and the sport differential currently found on the S4 to really give BMW all it can handle with respect to performance.

once again audi late to the party. the m3 has been out since 2008 and will most likely be 5 10 grand more in the states and maybe a hair quicker. Then the new m3 comes out in 2012. so like cadilac they will beat the aging m till the new one comes out. i guess better late then never. btw the s5 leases for over a grand a month what is this going to be. i pay 770 for my m convert is audi going to be 2 grand a month for this car? i love the look of the audi but when you compare price its a no brainer

How is the car late to the party?
It's just like saying that yoru M3 was late to the party when Audi introduced the B7 RS4.
That is just idiotic.
Why do we care how much you pay a month on your M3?
So you are leasing it.. way to go.
Audi does NOT lease their RS models.
It proves again that people that buy the RS can afford it and BMW owners lease their M cars..

From my standpoint (one of argument) it is the BMW who is late to the game and Audi keeps beating it to it.

If ANYTHING can be argued about the model cycles it is who has the better model the longest in the market. Say for sake of argument, if model cycles last 6 years, BMW comes out "first" with the new M3 in year 1, then Audi comes out "second" in year 3 with its new RS5. Audi will enjoy dominance for years 3,4,5 and 6 before BMW comes out with their newer model again in year 7. THIS IS WHAT MATTERS. Who cares if you drive a dated M3 when a better RS5 is in the market, regardless of edition or cycle. Is your defense to say "well, the 'better' M3 is coming out in a year or two"... maybe, but your CURRENT M3 sucks lemons!

Also, a second edition brand A model can trump a 14th edition brand B model. So number of editions means squat! Model year discussions are basically pointless.

Audi does lease the RS models. By the time this car comes out, it'll probably be in the $1300 range... and people will pay it.

By the this are not "pictures" of the car, this are computer renditions. So quite a bit can change until the car is publicly showcased.

I think it looks good but chances are it will be heavy and without turbos it will not be able to dominate the M3. Especially since the R8 barely beats the M3 on the ring by 1 second over 13 miles and it is a lighter car then this for sure.

This will likely be a match for the BMW M3 for 3 reasons:

1) Less weight than RS4

2) More horsepower and torque than RS4

3) Better balanced than RS4 (because of lower ride height)

4) More advanced technologically than RS4 (Audi Drive Select & Rear Differential most likely standard)

irie77irie77 - 2/22/2010 4:21:23 PM

It'll be a match alright. Now that the specifications have been revealed. How much of a match?

Don't get me wrong I own a BMW and like Audis. Nice looking car in and out. However, if this is made to outrun the M3 it'd probably be slightly (if at all). All of that testing, time etc. and based on the overall combination of variables it better come strong in the performance and handling area to compete with the obvious. I so want it to have more than a slight edge. Looking for major gap on most comps.

The RS5 sounds and looks pretty impressive. I would take it over the M3.
