Exclusive: Why is diesel gas so expensive?

We've really been stumped why diesel prices have shot through the roof in the last two years.

It had traditionally been less than regular gas for the longest time.

Well, here's some insight to why it's gone up so much.

3-7 cents more per gallon is nothing when you get 50 mpg. some small cars in europe such as vw polo get 60+ mpg. couple that with electric hybrid, low sulphur content and super efficient catalytic converters and you've got 100+ mpg. not bad for the average joe on minimum wage and for the environment.

We are lead to believe here a while back that there was some oil shortages and rising barrel prices, yet somehow, someway, all the oil companies had RECORD BREAKING profits!!! I believe we all are entitled to some kind of price-gouging refund. As for diesel gas I think they are referring to gas as the fuel.... not literally petrolium/diesel. But even at a few more cents, the mpg factor is so much better than gas and you will spend less over the years. I agree with zxc....couple it with hybrid electric motors and you could prolly get 80-100mpg.

here in canada (i dont know how many of you live here) diesel fuel hangs around price of gasoline...when gas is expensive, diesel is cheaper than gas...when gas is cheap, diesel is more expensive than gas. i drive a smart fortwo and i get 500km for $20 (canadian dollars)...can any other car match that? and the acceleration is not that bad considering that the car only has 40hp. anyways...just my $0.02.
