Breaking: Acura considering a small car below the TSX
Dealers have doubts about Acura ever reaching Tier 1 luxury status after officials reported a sales plunge and a decision to cancel rear-drive V-8 vehicles.

At the make meeting, Acura officials tried to talk dealers into agreeing that the new plan, which is reliant on hybrids, would succeed. Dealers would have to wait at least a year for the hybrids to arrive. While they wait, Acura is giving dealers more incentives and higher marketing funds in order to drive traffic. Jim Smail, president of Smail Auto Group in Greensburg, Pa., expressed his eagerness for Acura to start a sales event in April that will run through July.

Please no CSX for the US market. Civic 4D body with underpowered 2.0L engine and a big $$$ premium for a Civic EX-L essentially.

I second that... How about Honda coming up with real Acuras, not just rebadged Hondas that are poorly equipped to compete in the market. I don't want to pay extra to get parts out of a Honda that are made to look slightly different if at all.

"Yeah, you guys came up with the only Acura possibly considered a rebadged Honda"

That true with the exception of the;

RL = Honda Legand
TSX = Euro Accord
NSX = Every where else in the world (except N.A.) was a honda.

lol uhm I think his point is that they are all Accords in some way shape or form.... Which translates into cars that offer a great value statement, the RL and MDX not so much, by comparison to the competition but it doesnt negate the fact everything in the Acura lineup is based on the accord in some way except the civic/crv based RDX. They have no car that offers a unique platform, and their interiors honestly arent a far cry from the cheaper Honda's they are based on, they are in a way alot like what Mercury has been to Ford or what Lincoln has become for that matter. All in all Honda has the technology to make Acuras more competitive, they know how to build quality cars, and they know how to create a performance car why not infuse all this into their Acura lineup.

no, they are based on the Pilot. face it, Acura is basically a higher trim level for Hondas. even people who like Acuras know that they are Hondas, this is a part of the appeal for them.

The Pilot was based on the original MDX, which was in turn based on the Odyssey.

a big V6 in a small FWD car sounds like fun in a torque steering way..... Why not use the s2000 platform for more than an archaic roadster and make it available for more vehicles....

Remember that Acura commercial where they showed all the grills from competing luxury cars... they showed everything but Cadillac, and excluded Cadillac on purpose. I found that disrespectful slight quite amusing. Not only does Cadillac out-sell Acura handily, but the cheapest Cadillacs begin where the most expenive Acuras end in price... Acura really had some nerve trying to exclude Cadillac from the prestige/luxury club, when their own membership is tenuous, at best.
