Audi A1 To Make It Stateside? Should It?

Audi A1 To Make It Stateside? Should It?
Carscoop reports:

Even though Audi will hold a press conference at the unveiling of the new A1 premium hatchback in Geneva next week, the Germans gave journalists the opportunity to ask a bevy of questions ahead of the car's presentation, answering the most popular ones through a voting process.

And while questions about the possible introduction of S1 and RS1 sporty variants didn't make the cut (for the record, we voted, but go figure...), a few interesting questions did.

First of all, Audi said that there are no plans to offer the A1 with the firm's all-wheel drive quattro system while the first generation of the car will be offered only as a three- and five door hatchback body styles.

Despite various reports supporting the opposite...

Yes it should come stateside, but be at a price point befitting. The 1-series BMW miserably failed at being an entry level BMW that is was touted to be. Price this in the mid to high 20's and charge 30-35k for the S and RS versions.

this economy car parading around as a "premium sub-compact" is no 1 series competitor....not even close. Its always hilarious how people think its ok for Audi to charge thousands more for a car that is based on an economy car but if another manufacturer does it there is a problem??? lol, this is why i cant take them serious as a brand, It even looks like the economy car its based on except for the rediculous grill and silver pillars its just a bland 2 door hatch, this is worse than the A3....

they're already discontinuing the golf-A3 due to lack of demand, what makes you think a rebadged vw polo would fare any better? besides, the A1 can't compete with bmw's mini. no one in america wants to drive a petrol that goes 0-60 in barely under 10 seconds in A1's premium, top of the line 1.4L model! the BASE cooper is 1 second faster to 60, mind you.

besides, people in america will drive a 10 second 0-60 car ONLY if it's got a hybrid badge on it. that's how americans justify driving it. not because a car is fuel efficient, but because it is a hybrid.

if vw can't sell polo's in america, there's no reason why audi can/will try to sell the A1 here.

The A1 is one fugly car. I loved my A3, but this thing is just plain odd.

A better strategy would be to bring the 3 door A3 stateside, and price it to start in the low 20s, with a fully loaded 5 door A3 topping out at 29-31k.

The A3 didn't sell because not many people want a sporty hatch that costs in the mid 30s-40k (if you get the 3.2). I always got praise and turned heads in my A3 S-Line.

The BMW mini doesn't have a "BMW" badge. Its a bit different from what Audi is doing.
