If They Handed You The Keys To The New Audi RS5 Or The 911 S, Which One Would You Grab?
The new Audi RS5 looks smokin' hot and you'll see the first real life shots of it soon, when we hit the floor at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show.
But so is the Porsche 911 Carrera S.
So our question today is if they handed you the keys, which one would you make yours?
Is it a no-brainer or does the icon have a little worrying to do?

Agreed. You have to be a real fan to appreciate the different Porsche model lines. The average people I would be "show-boating" for could afford any Porsche, but would care less about the individual model. Aside from the Cayenne, Panamera, and maybe be the Carrara GT; they wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Same here, the Audi RS5. Why? better looking and more exclusive. I live in Orange county, CA where Porsche is pretty a come car you see driving around town. Plus the Porsche all look the same or a smush bug bettle.

Don't get me wrong, Porsche was the king of Sportcar performance, well it use to be until the Nissan GT-R took that Crown away from them. The Audi RS5 just look way cooler and less common.

The RS5 better have far better handling, steering feel and balance than the S5 I drove recently to even consider it in the same league as the 997S. And compared to the PDK equipped Porsche, I doubt it will be any quicker. And I don't need that extra 600 lbs of ground hugging weight on the RS5. The RS5 will be rarer on the streets than the Porsche, but so is a Nissan Cube. Seriously, different cars - one is a high performance, luxury sporty car and the other is an iconic sports car.

You sorry attempt at humor falls shorter then your attention span. To think that your opinion or choice of car is better than mine only becuse of self centerd thinking is pathetic and shallow. Every one knows they both are great cars and many will pick the Porche like I did.

Well, if it were me, I'd go 911 S all they way.
The Audi RS5 is gorgeous and more rare but outside of the R8, I'm really not a fan of how audi's drive.
Their steering is weighted too heavy for my taste and they just never feel light and nimble on the road.
They're like a suit that is made from the finest materials but because of the tailors fitting mistake, you end up leaving it in the closet for the suit that fits perfectly.
That said, I'm sure glad the articles question wasn't 911 S or R8.
Cause in THAT case, the 911 is dead in my opinion.
The R8 is one of my favorite cars on the planet, if not THE favorite.

Two last things about the choice of the 911 over the RS5...The 911 would have to finished in a unique color combo...like the Sport Classic and the interior would have to be highly upgraded with individual options throughout.
If it was just a standard Black or Silver/black, I may go with emotion and choose the RS5.

I love the R8's looks, exclusivity and all around cache, but the price for a well-equipped V8 has gotten into the silly money range for the performance you get. Th V8's I've seen languishing on showroom floors are all hitting the $130-140K range with usual goodies. From a purely emotional lust POV, I get your point.

Based on looks and uncommonness I'd take the RS5.
However, I'd have to drive the RS5 first to make sure that it provides the variables (some of them being handling, responsiveness etc.) that I'd expect from a GT. If they are there in the RS5 (i.e. it's driving similar to an R8) then without doubt I'd get it over the 911 S .

RS5 with 580hp, And nice looks?
or
911 with 385hp, and looks that make it almost indistinguishable from any other kermit the frog inspired 911 in the past decade?
I think I'll choose the one that doesn't have carpet rear seats.

For interior space and rarity the RS5. Nobody is going to drive either car to their limits on regular roads (maybe if you take it to the track).

seriously? unless you are dumb and just care about looks and trunk space, there is no reason to take the rs5
one is a true sports car. the other is a tuned coupe. anyway i could sell the 911s and buy an rs5 and still have 20k or so in my pocket lol...

Very tough decision in my book. Each have their own advantages. This would be better solved with a test drive. V8 growl, or silky turbo V6, more performance or more practicality? Excellent question, I sense I would probably choose the 911, but I'm definitely not sure.

Depends on how long you would own them. RS5 is cooler, but I feel it has a shorter shelf life than the 911. Based on that, I'd pick the 911.

Neither! The RS5 will be rare until umm, its on the market for more than a month. Will have great performance for its class until a new M3 comes out.
Agree that the 911s is a bit low on the totem pole to be compared to the near top of the line Audi sports coupe.
The question should be if money was no object would you take the RS5 over a 911 with equivalent hp. Cause in that comparo the answer is easy...450hp 911 all day! I'd even take the Carrera 4S over the RS5!

Why do so many of you make decisions on looks? DRIVE THEM! There is absolutely no comparison. Lots of other new cars have been quickly replaced by 911s because they are more agile and fun to drive, as well easier to live with then most of the competition!

My choice of the RS5 is definitely not based on all out performance. I happen to like bigger cars, the Bentley Continental GT is definitely not the fastest car in its class but the raw size and power, great looks, and heavy handling make me lust after it.
If performance was the only thing people based their decisions on was performance, there would be roughly 100,000 ariel atom sales yearly.

R8 costs an easy $20K+ over a 911S. I would take the 911S over the RS5. I gotta keep it classy. Besides, the R8 is the only desirable Audi. Other than China, where will you find a new A6 outside the dealership?
