2010 Mercedes-Benz G350 BlueTEC uncovered

2010 Mercedes-Benz G350 BlueTEC uncovered
Mercedes-Benz revealed today its latest version of the classic G-Class off-roader, now in its 31st year, features state-of-the-art BlueTEC technology.

For those who don’t know BlueTEC is a technology developed by the German manufacturer in order to reduce diesel vehicle emissions, especially nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. The new G 350 BlueTEC uses AdBlue, an aqueous urea solution which is injected into the exhaust-gas stream. This process releases ammonia, which means that 80 percent of the nitrogen oxides are converted into harmless nitrogen and water by a process of reduction in the downstream SCR catalytic converter.

Incredible range with the diesel, I love the 3 locking diffs, now all they have to do is put some larger tires on this like 35 inch tires and this vehicle lacks suspension travel, the travel is pathetic! A H-2 would out wheel this in stock form because of the limited wheel travel and small tires.

You have to be on crack to think an H2 could match. let alone beat this thing off road. H2's suck. You can't rock climb because they snap tie rods. Now an H1 may be as good, but and H2, no way.

The G wagon's tires are way too small to out perform the H-2's 35inch tires off road and believe it or not the H-2 has more suspension travel even though the H-2 has a wimpy front independent suspension, the G wagon has a way better engine choice and for the gas engines they have comparable gas consumption. I like the G wagons 3 locking diffs way more than the H-2s, nothing beats a selectable locker for the best of both worlds, and yes this G wagon is a better vehicle in general without a doubt, but off road performance the H-2 would defiantly out perform the G wagon, you just can't go off road too seriously with the G wagons car tires, with a little modification the G-wagon could be fitted with 35s and suspension custom made with long arm suspension to aid in more wheel travel, I have heard it only has three inches of wheel travel stock, that is pathetic, I am a huge fan of the Mercedes Unimog, nothing comes close to that, nothing! And an H-1 would out wheel this, and so would an H-3T alpha, hands down! I would never say an H-2 is good, this is an opinion that comes from an off road nut, not P/C green zeal.

Good point truckman. It also depends on the terrain. I just got back from a funeral and it was muddy but hard ground. Everyone got stuck including an H3. It was slick but hard. My ML320 got a little stuck because I forgot to disengage the ESP but Once I backed up I got out. The hummer backed up and went out another way. Wet grass and hard ground with clay will make any $WD look sorry offroad. Despite the H3's better tires, he fared no better than my ML with 16" street tires. I had no Idea the G wagen had such little suspension travel. Tires make a world of difference though. I wish I had took My discovery II. It is a beast offroad. If I disconnect the sway bars it has hella good suspension travel for a stock vehicle. Sorry If I sounded like an ass. I wasn't trying to be disrespectful but after I posted I realized how it could have sounded. Kudos for being mature unlike alot of posters here. You obviously know your offroad stuff too.

Your response displays maturity and knowledge too, for this slick terrain that you mentioned the selectable lockers would work wonders with mud tires, the H-2 and H-3 have all terrain tires, no good for gumbo mud, is this the mud that you are talking about? Gumbo packs onto your tires as you drive and requires wheel spin to turn, very slick.

It was like gumbo mud. None of the vehicles got buried. It was like snot. I looked like I was stuck on level ground. My ruts were only about an inch deep but all 4 tires were trying to climb a rut at the same time and that wasnt happening. Once they moved the car stuck right behind me I was able to reverse and speed up over them. Even the tractor out there was having trouble. Tires were packed but the ground an inch under the mud was solid. It was so slick.
