Is This Canadian Ad For Hyundai Simply Too Racy For The U.S. Market?

If you’ve watched any of the Olympics over the last two weeks, you’ve probably seen Audi take some shots at Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, and even Ferrari in a couple of TV ads.

If you live in Canada, you’ve also been privy to an ad for the Hyundai Elantra, which involves two beautiful women, one of which leaves a lipstick kiss and phone number for the other. How does that relate to car advertising?

Ads from Hyundai absolutely ooze confidence lately, though this one in particular leaves me wondering what target market Hyundai has in mind. Is this kind of advertising effective or too edgy and inappropriate? An ad like this sure won’t be seen in the U.S., but it was just fine for Canada!

Of course it was fine for Canada. Canada is not sexually repressed, nor puritanical. The ad certainly has an edge that most Canadians would appreciate. Kudos to Hyundai.

Actually,...It seems that the first woman may have left the note because she thought the driver was a man...turns out it was woman...who might be into other women. Now...there SHOULD be a follow up to this letting us know what happens after she calls the number!

part one in a series...? could be another classic story such as 'Papa and Nicole' for Renault, or the Gold Blend Nescafe story ads (for us Brits anyway)

I agree with Need4Speed, the woman left the note on the car thinking it was a man because the car is appealing and manly enough for a guy to drive. But the woman comes on scene and sees the note on her car. Ah, advertising at it's finest. Think of the Secret commercials. "Strong enough for a man, pH balanced for a woman." Or something like that. The commercial is a funny way of getting the public to note that both sexes are the target market.

Unlike say the New Beetle, or a Hummer H2.

Ok, I live in Canada, and this is by far the least racy of commercials i've seen here. Too racy for the U.S. don't make me laugh.
