Geneva Preview: Porsche 918 Spyder Concept
As you may know already, the Geneva Motor Show will open its doors tomorrow, but Porsche decided to let us speechless today and revealed its impressive, astonishing 918 Spyder Concept.

The car combines the high-tech racing features with electric-mobility to offer a fascinating range of qualities. The new car promises to deliver a fuel consumption of just 3 (three) liters/100 kilometers (equal to approximately 78 mpg U.S.), outstanding for a sports car and will deliver just 70 grams of CO2 per kilometer. Don’t think the cars hasn’t good performances, because the 918 Spyder Concept will sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds, while the top speed is limited electronically to 320 km/h (198 mph).

'good' is an understatement.. this thing looks amazing. It brings Porsche back to date imo. I want one really bad.

It certainly looks like a Porsche, but it has that extra sense of sensuality. It's beautiful.

so that car has a 500hp V8 and it gets 78mpg? I know it's a hybrid but that's... something. If it's true it's amazing, but I don't know how it could be true.

Porsche is usually conservative in their numbers, so I'm sure it is accurate under certain conditions. These are the kind of efficiency ad power that hybrid technology has been capable of in theory, yet not fully utilized. Particularly on a track, where you need the juice NOW just after standing on the brakes. Nothing delivers torque like electric, and hybrid is just the icing on the cake to make it burn less fuel.

Amazing the numbers you can get from a plug in hybrid.

It looks gorgeous, but are those hot performance numbers "temporary"? Meaning, when the battery is exhausted (and it will be after a fairly short drive), what are the performance numbers? I speculate you'll leave with a bristling monster of a Porsche, and you'll arrive with a Prius in Porsche clothing.

Ah, I get it now! The great fuel economy is the temporary (unsustainable) factor. The honkin' V8 is always available to deliver 500 horses... and suck the dino juice. The great fuel economy is extremely short-range. Over all, one may be better off just getting what suits them best, without the additional overhead of being politically correct.
