Ford Continues To Preach Global Movement, Will They Bring The Next-Gen Focus RS Across The Pond?
Autocar reports:

A high-performance variant of Ford’s next-generation Focus will make production, the company has confirmed.

Speaking on the eve of the Geneva motor show, Ford’s Derrick Kuzak confirmed there would be a “global performance model” of Ford’s new Focus. He also confirmed the car would get the firm’s new Ecoboost technology and would be “exciting to drive and great to look at”.

Ford insiders say the firm has yet to decide whether the next performance Focus will get the ST or RS badge. Insiders have also said there will be a coupe variant of the next Focus, so this could form the basis of the performance model.

The performance variant is expected to be front-wheel drive and powered by a turbocharged petrol engine, as in the current RS...

What's funny is even the title of the article is off. Let's pput this into perspective and also properly quote Ford. The current Focus RS is a 300+ hp AWD beast of a compact. The upcoming performance model on the GLOBAL platform will be 250hp in the 2.0L EcoBoost 4 cylinder engine and FWD.

The Ford Focus ST on the other hand has 225hp and FWD. It is situated between the Focus and the Focus RS models to bridge the gap. Now since the RS is NOT coming to the US market, Ford wants to first dive into the performance sector again with a car more on par with say the Civic Si, GTI, Mazdaspeed 3, WRX, etc. Better to sell to the masses than to deliver a car that would compete with the Evo and STi. At least in their minds it seems for now anyways.

So it would make sense that the 2.0L EcoBoost coming out with 250hp would be the next generation Focus ST in Europe and the Focus SVT in the US market (since the last SVT Focus was 170hp).

Ford already said this will NOT be the next RS, so if you want facts, be sure to read this post after you read the article title.

As a side note, I would love the extra power with 250hp, but would also love to see it available on both a 2 and 4 door model. Mazdaspeed 3 is only a 4 door, the Civic Si comes in both 2 and 4 door. And since Ford is looking to only offer the power option on the hatchback, it would make sense to do a 4 door as well. Then I'll be a buyer.

Oh, and nice job on finally posting something about the Focus, it's only been over a month...

I really hope they eventually do. I may not purchase one as it would only be a 2 door most likely. But it would help the brand image. We missed out on the Cosworth Escort years ago, would be a shame if we missed out on this again.

Although would they keep it the RS if they brought it over seeing that the ST version we are getting will most likely be called the SVT. I think we will know once it debuts. If it is called the Focus Sport (a la Fusion Sport), then you know the SVT nameplate is being saved for an RS version.

They wont bring it over here. Not sure why buy I'm sure they'll provide a stupid reason as to why not.

It will never come out here. The only people who would buy such a thing would get an STI or Evo before this. Too much $$$ for a Focus.
