Mercedes-Benz S550- The great reviews keep piling up

I'm more often befuddled than bedazzled by technology.

The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class is an exception. This car offers so many neat, useful -- OK, I'll say it, amazing -- gadgets that I'm still abuzz two weeks after handing back the keys.
And, miraculously, these tech bits don't overshadow the fine automobile that contains them.

The 2007 S550 is certainly one of the best cars around, and it's certainly one of the most expensive. Our test model, with its Capri blue paint and gray leather interior, had a base price of $85,400. Throw in the destination charge, the gas-guzzler tax (city mileage is a pitiful 16 mpg) and nearly $20,000 worth of options and you get a $105,045 car that redefines fully loaded.

nate: get something straight here. 70K is not a cheap car. Their all competitors to each other in their market respectively. For you to say that Audi is not at the same level as Benz or Bimmer is wrong. I will play a neutral role here to keep things down here before someone really starts knocking you.

Audi A8 - nice car, for the businessman/women who wants a conservative look.
BMW 7series - nice car, for the sportcar enthusiast who wants it in a package in a luxury sedan
MB s-class - nice car, for the conservative businessman/women looking for an elegant sedan.

Key points **** all three are 'nice cars'. Performance Specs are all different but I mean for the 'appearance' it's all impressing. So don't go that far "NATE". I'm a Mercedes Fan more than any but lines have to be drawn on what to say and what not to say. Keep your opinions to yourself.

Perhaps get a job and save up some money and if you can afford it one day when you're all grown up then you can be the judge on what's not in the same league.

For everyone who hates on Mercedes, please put it beyond you and look at this vehicle as a car. It is seriously amazing. If you haven't been in one or even gotten the chance of a lifetime to drive one or even be next to it while its driving, this is hands down the best luxury sedan on the market, I want to say ever but the 740iL was money back in the day. This cars styling is beautiful, in response to the 750's, BMW takes everything a little to far, the 750 is a great car but its so beefy and technology driven in your face kinda thing, the Merc is clean and sleek the interior is like the clean look that jag's used to be back in day. Back in the 90's Mercedes started cutting corners to make more money but now they've changed, they have cut their earning to 1/3 of what they were making in order to go back to the quality that they once had. So start to drop the hate, BMW is an amazing car maker, nothing really compares to the 6 series, Audi doesn't even touch the class that BMW and MB have. With this S-class Mercedes is heading in a great direction, can't wait to see what comes out next.

I took delivery of a new S550 on Feb. 11 and have had every generation of S Class sedan since 1982. The new 550 is without question the best big body sedan Mercedes has produced. The ride and performance are significantly better than our 02 S and the styling is a show stopper. I hope that MB keeps this basic design longer than the 6 year run of the last S. This car is incredible!
