If you were given the choice of taking the keys of a Mercedes S600 or a BMW 760li Sport... Which one would you take home?
Even as a Mercedes Benz fan since my early childhood, it has really always been tough to decide between these two newer models because I believe that each one has their unique design ques and performance as well as luxury. But the real question here is which one would you choose? Hopefully a little hand can give me a better sense of direction.

of course i would take the 760Li M-Package just to be different because I know a majority would take the S600 because of the Maybach look

What about the LS600??!? Ha jk! I would take the S600.

I would disagree if it wasnt for the LS the S and 7 would probably be worse cars its been a sales success to say the least and forced BMW and Mercedes to reevaluate what they were putting out to the market with their flagships. Its not my type of car or one I would buy but you still cant ignore its impact in this class.

The 760 its the better drive and I love its elegant sportiness as opposed to loads of flash and chrome not that the S600 isnt good looking it is but a bit to traditional luxury for my taste in purchase.

the benz. imo bmw doesnt have anything to compete with the s, cl, or sl but wish they did.

they dont have anything to compete with the CL......But if you dont think they have a car to compete with the SL(BMW 6 Series) and the S-Class(BMW 7 Series) to me your just a Mercedes enthusiast and not a car enthusiast or you have blinders on where all you see is Mercedes and thats fine but dont say they dont have cars to compete.

the 6 series doesnt compete with the SL and never has....not sure where you got that from these 2 cars couldnt be more different. Technically the closest thing Mercedes has to a "6 series competitor" would be the CLS they both have the same price points and Mercedes would like you to believe its a coupe lol. Otherwise BMW hasnt had an SL type car or CL since the Z8 or 8 series went out of production.

In that case, Mer also doesn't have anything on 6 series and 1 series, 5 GT, X1 and X6.
These 2 car makers have very different orientations of their vehicle line up. what's the point of having competitors for every single model?

bmwdrvr..........its not about price matching and if you do a comparison you will see that these 2 cars easily compete with each other. just because the SL is $10k-$12k more than the SL doesnt mean it doesnt compete. and the CLS is more of a 5 series competitor being that its made off the Eclass frame but to compare the CLS with the 6 series just because of price is sensless. Now the CL i can agree they have nothing that competes with it which is very stupid on BMW but I dont call the shots for them. Here ya go check your facts:

Between the two, I would have to roll with the 760li. I have always loved the S-Class (and I still do), but I feel like the BMW would be more of a drivers car.

I know this wasn't part of the questions, but personally I'd sell the 7-Series and buy an M3 and 535xi with the funds.

Depends on what you want, the driver oriented will take the BMW, the one looking for the best ride wil take the MB. In my case If I have money to buy an S600, I prefer to put some extra bucks and buy the S65. If do not have that option, The S suite my desires en better way....but the 760il is great...in fact that engine is the first real V12 with torque and power from BMW....the sense of power in the BMW should be better cause the car is lighter than the MB and it have tons of torsion at 1500 rpm....Sweet....Just change the external design and change the location of the cupholder and center screen. Lexus LS460....It is good but it is oriented to other market...ie American and Japanese market and it is completely diferent type of car.

"Depends on what you want, the driver oriented will take the BMW".

That might have applied to the BMW 7 Series' of yore, but this porker isn't making anyone a DTM champion anytime soon. A 5,000lb car is hardly something I'd call driver oriented. Just thinking about the the 760li as a drivers car reminds me of "The Wedding Singer" where the guy is taking his Lincoln Town Car limo through an obstacle course.

have you driven a new 7? It's pretty amazing what that thing can do. I spent a weekend wringing out a 750Li xDrive, and that was one of the most enjoyable cars I have ever been in, period. It handles better than my 535 (the adaptive suspension made a believer out of me), the power is fantastic, the materials and fit and finish inside is every bit as good as Audi or Benz (frankly I'd say it's better but I haven't been inside the new A8 yet). It's just a fantastic car. I don't need anything as enormous as a long wheelbase 7-Series, but a short wheelbase 750i xDrive would be tops on my list of cars in that class (which is why I am about 99% sure I'll be replacing my 535xi with a new 550i xDrive at the end of the year).

If it's free, I'd take the S600. If I'm paying, I'll take the BMW. The S loses value too fast. I'd wait and buy the S used/coming off lease.

golfer38: It will be faster just in the track...but in open road the S65 stil have the advantage in every aspect , Power, Torque , and also quicker acceleration, just compare the numbers. However the gap in price is huge, BMW is the most smarter choice..if you are a rich guy and the cost is no object..S65 all the way for me....But the edge of the benz is so small that at the end most of the drivers won't feel the diference in performace cause they are almost 98% or more the same cars talking about performance. If we are looking for a BIG Sport limo (if such thing exist), that will be the Panamera Turbo S.

b7 first i am not a merc guy i drive a m3 convert. 2nd i believe that bmw makes a better car then merc except for the s cl and sl. Third the sl is not a competitor for the 6 series that would be the e coupe. the sl is a 2 seat roadster the 6 is a gt car (2 door 5 series basically). again i am a bmw driver and a fan of their cars but in my opinion the 3 i mentioned bmw doesnt come close. i would take 3 over c, 5 over e 6 over e coupe but cl sl or s class bmw isnt close

Both are about equally excellent with slight differences. Personally I sold my S600 and bought an M3 convertible. While the thrust of the 600 was fun and impressive, in normal cruising it was just another luxury car. I was feeling old in it and bored. Midlife?? In addition the depreciation was staggering. I bought a used Range Rover for big luxury and the M3 is so far the most fun daily driver I've owned. Both cars cost less than the 600.

For everyday driving and reliability, you would have to go with an LS. Between the two here, I would choose the BMW. The S looks dated compared to the BMW (or Lexus).

If you are comparing reliability between an LS, 7-Series and S-Class there is no question the LS wins that argument.

Not a hard choice: S600 for its luxury until the next A8L W12 arrives, then dump the S600 easily for the new A8L W12.

When it comes to the 7 series vs. S class, its whichever has the newest design. For now I would take the 7, but when the S redesigns, ill take that. I went from 745 to S550, and when my money is right, ill get the newest generation of whichever car at the time.
