HS250H Review: Is Lexus Beginning To Set The Bar Too Low?

HS250H Review: Is Lexus Beginning To Set The Bar Too Low?
Just as a great actor like Robert De Niro can waste his talent in a flop like “Rocky and Bullwinkle,” it turns out Lexus can fritter its auto-building flair on a drab luxury sedan like the HS250h.

Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota, applied its considerable attention to detail, lavishing the HS250h with exactly the kind of unseen features that have made its products the darling of upper-middle-class consumers.

After all, can anyone really tell the car employs Pulse Width Modulation to control the speed of the air conditioner’s fan for reduced energy use and noise? Probably not. But it is the kind of effort the company has always made to ensure its models were more special than the lesser Toyotas from which most of them are derived.

Nothing wrong with a Hybrid that has some style. Other makes should follow Lexuses lead. I'm not sure why the Prius and Honda insight has to look like something from a Woody Allen movie?

That have the trapezoid shape for aerodynamics and to maximize cargo space at the same time, without any consideration for style.

You must keep in mind Agent009 that Lexus does respond to customer surveys and consumer demands to a point. These are entry-level luxury cars for the American market. If this were a rear-wheel drive car it would be somewhat of a conflict of intrest to the IS lines. I have already seen a lot of these cars on the road driven by young & old proffessionals. The car still looks good on the road and it's affordable. Besides, we are still in a recession and people will buy these types of brand name cars to wet a little of their bling persona...Of course, I would expect only the wise and prudent to understand.

It has a great interior, plenty of luxury features, good performance andd handling, and great gas mileage.

What is lacking is enough exterior style to justifty its premium. I also would wait for an upgraded engine. Right now it's using the 2.4L/Hybrid Synergy Drive 2 combo that the Camry has had for a few years. Surely the mid cycle refresh will upgrade this. Maybe they can add some style to its packaging at that time as well.

DeNiro produced the Rocky and Bullwinkle movie and his performance in it is hilarious. So if you cant get that comment right, how can you get a car review right.

If "setting the bar too low" means rebadging cheap Toyotas as Lexus again, then YES. Take that, David999.

Nice 009, more toyota articles.

You still ignore the 1.3 million vehicle recall by GM

You also post an article saying toyota is trying to "lure" customers with 0% financing, well, where is your post on this?

GM to offer 0% APR for 60 months financing on most 2010 models: http://www.egmcartech.com/2010/03/04/gm-to-offer-0-apr-for-60-months-financing-on-most-2010-models/

Saw one at the auto show...it just looks like a cheap-car and is not helping the brand prestige in the least.

All lexus set the bar low. That is their market mantra, make it look expensive but performance and quality are not to be found!

Dead Right Agent 009 !!!
I mean what a boring car, a Hybrid for crying out aloud. I mean other than being an engineering marvel that no local company makes and a stab at an alternative approach to luxury, what else does it bring to the table?
After all we need excitement like uhmmm Ford Lincoln here, something with a big ass motor preferably an SOHC iron lump with a displacement of ohhh say 6.2 liters so we can rev and rev as we sit in bumper to bumper traffic being careful not to trip off the
1) Speed cameras
2) Budget as Gas hits 3$.45 in Cali
3) Cops (who are looking out to close the budget crisis through your wallet)
So yeah, Lexus hybrid bad, cause the doors don't thunk!! Yeah, a ford Hybrids better cause msnbc the epitome of well thought out journalism says so.

Once again awesome job Agent 10-1 , your cut and paste technique is excellent and a special mention to your parroting of a hack article. Liked the approach for actually spouting no individual thought there!!!
