Ford wants to take back the top spot in U.S. sports car sales
Ford Motor Co. will launch a marketing campaign with a focus on fuel economy for its 2011 Mustang that will be released this spring. With this car, Ford intends to once again be the top-ranking carmaker when it comes to US sports car sales.

The US Environmental Protection Agency has certified that the new 3.7-liter V6 Mustang can generate 305hp and achieve 30mpg in highway driving. Both of these ratings are an improvement over General Motors Co.’s 2010 Camaro, which sold more than the Mustang and other sports cars in February for the ninth consecutive month.

Just give it time. Ford will top this shortly. The Camaro was a new toy that hit the streets and people were punch drunk.
The 2011 Mustang with the new motors, updated interior, and the FORD sync system will be one "HOT ROD"

I guess it depends on the definitation of 'Sports car". I always thought of a sports car as a over average hp and handeling two seater. Camaros, Mustangs and Challengers were always 'pony cars' and or 'Muscle cars" when the big blocks came available.

Actually, the Dodge Charger outsold the Camaro and Mustang in February, but, yes, the Camaro has been dominant.

The Camero is the one to beat and GM is just getting started with it.

The Camaro is VERY BEATABLE. Its not the benchmark. Ive been trailering Camaros for years. Its easy. This new one is no different

Dodge makes good cars but nothing in camaros ballpark.

Thats funny but it seems your Camaros ballpark is for softball only.

I'm sorry, but on what grounds is the Challenger competitive?

Let me put it this way. I dont care about spec sheets. Dont care about gas mileage. Where is the Race pack Camaro??? There is none. Where is the V10 that can produce 1,000 hp naturally asperated that fits in a Camaro??? there is none. Where is the stock L series chevy cylinder head that flows better than a Hemisphereical head??? Not there. The only thing greater is there raceing budget. The new Camaro is OK and just that. I think the Camaro is cartoonish and the dash is hiddious. IMHO. And btw the Challenger is very competitive. Dodge has a full bodied Charger [lx] already in the low 9 second range in 1/4 mile along with others. Transfere that to the Challenger. Prep them and bring them to the track and lets drive. BTW in true Chevy fassion, they will wine and cry as they always do and have the mopars factored so heavy, they can compete. Case in point with the Viper in SCCA that was factored untill the Corvetts could win again.

Funny you should mention a 1000 hp or V10 Charger / Challenger becuase I have you to see any in production.

The Charger that does a low nine second pass is a 6.4 V8 along with some other Chargers in the mid to high 9s. There are various magnums that do the same. This translates to the 6.1 and 6.4 Production Challengers. All future SRTs will have the 6.4 [392 ci] Even the Jeep GC. The V10 Challenger has been done [currently 650hp] and is in the cross hairs don't know the actual production date. There are varoius v10s that create 1000hp without forced induction or fuel additives [street legal]. I have always enjoyed the rivalry between makes, thats when guys like us get good stuff from the factories. Currently there is no talk of a Convertable Challenger even though it was engineered for it. I guess one thing at a time.

Have owned many sports cars over the years and the Mustang is not a sports car. However, I just bought a 2010 Shelby GT500 and it is one hell of a car...great power, unbelieveable sound, good looks and screwed together well. Tons and tons of soul...fun to drive all the time. It will get eaten alive in the corners by a Miata but who cares when you are always smiling when riding that torque curve of power.
