2010 Lexus LS460 Sport Review: Why Are They Still Playing Catch Up?

2010 Lexus LS460 Sport Review: Why Are They Still Playing Catch Up?
With Lexus having carefully cultivated a reputation for isolating drivers from all of the undignified sensations normally associated with driving, it might seem surprising to find a Sport model in the LS lineup. Sure, Lexus offers the M3-chasing IS F, as well as the outrageous LFA supercar, but an LS460 Sport? Come on... even sport-synonymous BMW doesn't offer an M version of its full-size 7 Series luxobarge.

BMW does offer, however, an Alpina B7, as well as a BMW M5. There's also the Cadillac CTS-V, Audi S6 and S8, and a whole undercard of Mercedes-Benz AMG cars out there that prove there is a market for sports-tuned large sedans like this 2010 Lexus LS460 Sport. You certainly can't begrudge Lexus for trying to steal a slice of that more stiffly-sprung, high-test pie – but is it just promoters' hype or can this LS Sport really float like a butterfly and sting like a bee?

It's just a tease-test to see if there's any profit involved here, if not, there's still the GS-F factor to be reckoned with. I dont think Lexus is concerned about the idea of catching up with their rivals. I think they ultimately want a real challenge and out-wit the competition. Like they did with the halo LFA.

Lexus Fans are Dumb. Can't really blame them though? They come from the American educational system.

Anyway, this thing looks pretty serious on the road even though there's other high end sedans I'd like to own.

"009" makes the mistake of believing that the only markets are existing ones, therefore Lexus is trying to compete in an existing market. It's also possible to define new markets by creating a new offering, or positioning an offering for an as yet untapped, or under-expoited market. Lexus may be testing the waters this way.

Steve- They are aiming at an existing market. They have defined the soft and compliant luxury market. The problem is hardly anyone wants to compete in that market.

It is kind of like giving a party but no one comes, so you now crash another one and just don't fit in.

Considering many German brands posting hefty loss recently, they might want to consider competing in 'that market'. It's all about making money for MFR, in the name of whatever sxxt you like to believe.

the cars they mention that 'compete' with this car are out of price range for the LS. No LS costs 125K. Not even the the Hyrbid flagship model. Try getting the sport version of the BMW or the Mercedes Benz. They'll run at least 90K, This, topped out at 76K with all options. Try to get all the options a lexus has standard on the german cars and you'll pay an extra 10K. Its a fact, thats why Lexus sells, they don't price themselves out of range. Standard equipment on their cars are options on other luxury makes. Then check off the options list and you still run cheaper than comparably equipped others.

Your stupid hate mail is so bland that many don't even bother finish first sentence. Can you come up with something intelligent that can convince or bring argument? If not maybe you can just say 'FxxK Lexus' and I'll at least feel something.

...Man...

LMAO at poor deluded 204!

even back 3 years ago, CR said an LS had fewer problems than an MB ML500that was EIGHT YEARS newer!

heck, the cheapest TOYOTAs are more reliable that the U3. (Unreliable ubercrap trio)

Lexi are in a totally different class altogether.

heh, heh!

lexus is invading Euro territory with an optional firmed up suspension.

but the euros apparently DON'T EVEN DARE try to meet lexus on its turf. maybe they simply CAN NOT.

from at least two or three separate reviewers, i've read that the LS460 can CHARGE OVER railroad tracks and you DON'T EVEN NOTICE the tracks from the inside. i have NEVER heard that about ANY other car. not marshmallow buicks, caddy escalades, nor ANY euro or brit luxury sedan. prob'ly 'cuz no one else's ever made such tough AND smooth suspensions.

what with reactive suspensions and multiple times per second shock absorber adjustments (like on corvette and some caddys), i would not be surprised if this lexus offers ALL suspension settings. total isolation if you want that. sporting firm if you want that. or ANY setting in between you want.

the LS is on the way to becoming THE ULTIMATE LUXURY machine.

204E60..You are out of step with this gold chain crowd non-sense...blingers are into silver for that matter and I'm 100% sure that when someone leaves BMW or Merc for a Lexus they are well convinced they've become smarter and welcome the change. Agent009...there's no hope for you man. I promise you, you will be on the outside looking in and eating so many of those words. I have a great memory and I will not let you live it down. You better hope & pray Toyota runs out of money and fall flat on their faces after their issue crisis is over because if not, they are going unleash some bad rides and pretty much dominate segments once again...kinda like they did in the 90's.

204E60...a negative (-6) & (-5) for those dumb comments...well, all I can say is you definately deserve'm. Trust me, if you had the chance to test drive an LFA, you'd do it without question and have your mind blown like the rest of the believers. You cant beat us so join us or sit back and continue to look and sound like and idiot!

Lexus and sport just don't go together well. Why not make a more luxurious version with a bigger engine, more features, and gobs of leather and alacantra with a lower price tag than the 760 and S600?
