GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Is Porsche's All-New Cayenne Different Enough From The Volkswagen Touareg?

GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Is Porsche's All-New Cayenne Different Enough From The Volkswagen Touareg?
One of the biggest problems with the first generation Porsche Cayenne was that it was a bit too alike when compared to its cousin, the Volkswagen Touareg. People scoffed at both sport-utility vehicles, that was until they admired their off-road performance.

Now up for their second generation, the Porsche and the VW showed their faces in the flesh at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show.

But the question remains, have they both found their own separate identities?

On the exterior, the Porsche keeps a more sensual and curvaceous design where the Touareg sticks to a more rugged and edgy look. Without a doubt, the VW channels the design traits of its siblings.

Getting more comfortable within the Porsche cabin reveals a heavily Panamera-influenced design. And, considering the Panamera has one of the best interiors in the biz, that is not a terrible thing.

Are both of these SUVs sporting their own character and flair?

We want to hear your thoughts...

I think the question is will the upcoming Audi Q7 be different enough from the VW Touareg?

they both look much better and you can tell the difference between the 2 I have to say the Cayenne has a much more elegant/luxury interior instead of the careles VW interior of the outgoing model.....even though I think the interior is Panamera inspired it has a more sportier look to it than the current model. The toureg is nice also I would have to say both get my approval. very well done VW

What an improvement over the last interior.

I have to agree with JUG on this one- the Toureg looks edgier and better on the exterior compared to the Cayennes' Catfish (or is it a bullfrog?)look. Whereas the new "Panamera" Cayenne interior is just plain hot compared to the borish and plain interior of the T-reg......

Germen fans are so pathetic!!

When Lexus builds a car based on a Toyota model, they start screaming like little kids that its just another Toyota!!

Well, does any German fan have the guts to come up and admit that Porsche is just another VW? lol pathetic people!

aha You're right. However, I'm a Lexus fan screaming like a little kid because some Lexus models are too similar to their Toyota counterpart, even if the Toyota version weren't sold in the US.

I think VW and Porsche did a good job. The Porsche has that... "Porsche" appeal and a great interior (I know; it's very similar to Touareg's). The VW looks like an acceptable and rather handsome car for businessmen and moms alike.

One particular thing that differs a low-end Cayenne to a Lexus RX is that you can pay a little extra to have leather everywhere, including the two TVs behind the front headrests.

I would really like to see magazines making a serious, thorough comparison of the Cayenne and RX.

The look identical from the outside except the front and rear....., its like the difference between a GMC Yukon and a Tahoe its clear they are the same car. At least the interiors are different which both are very nice and a huge improvement for the Porsche the last interior really was the worst of the 3 SUVS and yet ironically the most expensive.

I have always thought that the Toureg (what a stupid name) ruined the image of the Cayenne.

what a horrible interior colour in the Porsche, did they try to colour match off of a band aid?
