The most underrated player in GM's stable?

When the folks at Buick were ready to launch their latest attempt to lower the average age of a loyal customer base that is ripening faster than blue cheese in the sun, they decided to look to the past to find the future.

The result: It designed the new Lucerne with four holes on each front quarter panel, rimmed in chrome. Back in the day (circa Buick mid-1950s) they were called VentiPorts and were considered a sign of moving on up.

But in 2006, let's just call them ports. They do the trick, transforming, at least from the side, a sedan that could have been mistaken for any number of foreign cars, but not for a Buick.

The holes say Buick. And they are joined by a low nose, raked windshield, and humped rear deck.

from the rear. From the back this car does not look too bad, I have seen several around where I live, BUT still the blue rinse set driving them!! I dont see people in their 30's running into to Buick to buy one. THey are still going to the Honda/Toyota/VW dealerships here where I live.

This is a great car. If I wasnt so young and cared somewhat about old american cars this would seem very appealing. By the way the phaeton wasnt a bad car. It just was overpriced and was a volkswagen in BMW territory.

I agree it does look similar to a VW. I also agree that the passat wasn't a bad car. It WAS VW's own luxury car that wasn't badged Audi. Yes its definately over priced. Buicks are known as Luxury cars at an affordable price. It has the leather that everybody wants and it sure has the wood that make the cabin all that more cozier. For what you pay for, it is infact a pretty decent everyday driver. It may not have the sporty styling or the contemporary look but it will do for consumers with a budget who are looking for a car on the more premium side.
