RUMOR: Audi Resurrecting Its A2 With An All-Electric Model
Carscoop reports:

"It really all comes down to simple arithmetic. Audi wants to add another subcompact model to its range. It already has the A1 supermini and the A3 compact hatch, so if you subtract 1 from 3, you get 2. Add an 'A' up front and voila; you have the return of the A2 nameplate.

"There's clearly room for another product and another concept between the A3 and A1," Audi CEO Rupert Stadler told journalists on the sidelines of the 2010 Geneva Motor Show.

In a separate interview, Michael Dick, Audi's board member for technology, added that the firm's decision to add electric variants to the range will play a vital role with the next-generation A2 "in the near future."

According to reports, the new A2 will have unique styling and an electric powertrain. At the Geneva Salon, Audi showed the A1 e-tron Concept Study..."

I wonder if they'll hire Chris Bangle.

No thanks. Leave the ugly designs for the other german brand.

OK, so now since everything down from A8 to A1 is full or almost full with the A7 arriving, will they go down to the decimals like Audi A0.55 or Audi A1.7342???

The niche cars will have special designations, like the TT. There is always room for more Rs, like an R3, R5, R7 or even an SLR segment R9. When the E-trons come to market I'm sure they will all have a special designation (I only hope it is not the "E-tron 5" or "E-tron 8").

Some brands really lack creativity with their naming conventions. None more than the ridiculous BMW names, such as the 528i "xDrive" Sedan (is this a phrase or a name? can you say it ten times really fast?) or the Lincoln names MKT, MKS, MKZ, MKX ... what ever happened to simplicity? What does MK stand for??? creativity anyone? Coming next, the Lincoln MKXV-S iQuadraDrive Activity Sedan!

Do people really fall for these gimmicks? call a minivan a "Lifestyle Vehicle" or "Activity Vehicle" and it makes it different than 'other' minivans?
