Breaking: Porsche will build the 918 Spyder
Porsche boss, Mr. Michael Macht announced that the German firm will build the 918 Spyder, one of the biggest surprises from the Geneva Motor Show.

The new car will use a 500 bhp V8 engine but also two electric motors capable to deliver 218 bhp, which means the car will have a total output of 718 bhp. The car is capable to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in under 3.2 seconds while the top speed achieved is 320 km/h (198 mph) plus. According to the manufacturer, the new supercar will be able to beat the record of the old Carrera GT supercar on Nurburgring race track.

What better way to increase its image with a new halo car the 918 as a spirited green successor to the last one- the Carrera GT!

I also hope these design cues are incorporated into the next generation 911/Cayman/Boxster...

Oh and btw, with this 918 Spyder there can once again be a Porsche/Ferrari rivalry as this car will probably be a competitor (finally) to the upcoming Ferrari 458 Italia Spyder! What do you guys think?

Great news. Also now under VW the development costs, engines...etc will be shared by more brands.
