Following Toyota, Mazda will install brake override systems in new cars
Mazda announced today that will install brake override systems in its new models. This comes after Toyota recalled more than 8 million vehicles amid complaints of unwanted acceleration.

According to Mazda, the new technology will give the brakes priority if the accelerator and brake pedals are simultaneously depressed. Mazda spokesman Kotaro Minagawa said that all of its future vehicles will be equipped with the technology.

LOL Actually, you're still able to do burnouts with this system. I think once you get gowing is when it actually works.

Some say it'll allow the engine to run when the brakes are depressed first... but I modulate between my left and right foot sometimes and intentionally depress the brakes again while the accelerator is still on the floor. Sigh... I love burnouts, and trust me, I make sure that no one is at any risks of getting hurt; I feel extremely terrible whenever someone gets hurt because of my stupid mistakes.

As history taught us, make something illegal, people are just gonna try it. Make it illegal to mess with the brake override, people are just gonna want to meddle with the system.

Well is not a bad idea, BMW and Mercedes , Audi and VW has this system for a long long time ago ,if they going to take this in considerations now in theirs new model perfect is a safety priority for Toyota and Mazda drivers , but now , well better than never. Never is late for good change and improve safety in that case.

Brake override of the accelerator is a good basic safety feature, especially for those who freeze up when confronted with a surprising or threatening scenario (Shift to neutral? Turn the engine off?)

But my prediction is that when all cars have this feature, we still will not see the end of "unintended acceleration." Like with the Audi "unintended acceleration problem," a brake override will do nothing for the driver who is mashing the gas pedal while believing, heart and soul, that they are jamming the brake pedal into the floor.

Bring on the flames and deboosts :-)

I hope they have it on their 2011 Mazda 5. Call me grandma Minh but I like that micro minivan stuff.
