Driving Deaths Plunge, Fewest Since The 50s
CNNMoney reports:
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The U.S. Department of Transportation said Thursday that traffic fatalities in 2009 reached their lowest level since 1954.
Highway fatalities totaled 33,963 nationwide last year, according to the DOT, a drop of 8.9% from 2008, when deaths on the road totaled 37,261.
The government also said that the fatality rate in 2009 declined to 1.16 fatalities per 100 million miles traveled -- the lowest rate ever. This is down from a rate of 1.25 fatalities the prior year.
The DOT also said that fatalities have been in decline for 15 consecutive quarters, through the end of 2009...

Badgewhore has a point. Husbands and Males that are in a relationship are portrayed as clueless idiots on U.S TV commercials.

I still think teenagers should not be allowed to drive on the road until they are well over 18 years old. With all the texting, reading, and using cellphones while driving, teenagers are the most dangerous drivers on the road, even more so than a defective accelerator.

- WOW! That's some broad brush that you have there. You do realize that there are teen drivers, that start at the age of 16, that do not get into accidents? Not all teens text while they drive but all of them should be treated as if they do? That isn't the best way dude.

in my experience, women of all ethnicities and ages, and Asians of all ages and sexes are the worst drivers.

you really need help... what kind of drugs do you use? I didn't intend my comment as a racial/sexist slur. I just tend to see women driving with very little situational awareness and tenuous control over their vehicles. Asians tend to drive really, really slow, which is infuriating.
