Rumor: Subaru drops AWD system for its version of the FT-86 a.k.a. 216A
The latest news from Japan’s Best Car magazine, indicate that the ‘Toyobaru’ a.k.a. the 216A variant of the Toyota FT-86 will not feature an AWD system. Why is that?

Apparently the main reason is cost overrun and in order to avoid making the car too expensive, it seems that dropping the AWD system was the best solution. But, if Toyota intends to offer the G Sports version of the FT-86 unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon, then Subaru will also build the STI version of its sports car

FAIL. Subaru builds every car with AWD, it's their main selling point. Guess they can't say that anymore. If you can make a god ugly hatch with the 2.5 boxer and AWD for under 25k, then why not this thing. Then also offer it up in WRX and STi trim levels for those who want a little more power.

I am starting to think this is going to be more of a Honda CR-Z competitor, what a joke. Ford Focus RS/ST/SVT, here I come.

Well if STi cannot beat Evo, then maybe it's time to go purist's choice - RWD.

Every time I see an STI vs Evo X comparo the STI wins. So...

Lame Subaru... It had better be RWD if it isn't AWD. I think it was dumb to work with Toyota on this anyway, they don't have much experience making production desirable coupes- FAIL

Too bad Subaru won't be making an STI out of it, but, why should they to start with? AWD for a 250hp car..... Why? If you can't drive a 250hp RWD properly with right foot, you don't deserve AWD anyway.

For consumer isn't it great to have 2 styling to choose from? :)

I'm gonna waive the BS flag on this one. Subaru is going to make it awd.
