DEBATE: Which Car Will You Feel Safe In During The ARMAGGEDON?

DEBATE: Which Car Will You Feel Safe In During The ARMAGGEDON?
So, what do you do when the world seems as though it is ending?

That's what I thought was happening over the weekend as I was returning from my favorite Italian joint with my ol' lady. If you are not in the New York Tri-State area, you probably have no clue what I am talking about. Let me paint the picture for you guys.

It is raining sheets, there is a strong wind -- with gusts up to 70 MPH or more - trees are snapping and falling into the roadway like a set of match sticks, and power lines are breaking from their connections. Now, I couldn't help but wonder what would happen if the Volvo C30 I was piloting was nailed with a massive tree.

Do not get me wrong, the C30 is a safe vehicle but when you factor in a huge tree that is about 100 years old, I cannot place that much confidence in the little hatch. Along my travels this weekend, I saw countless other vehicles smushed into shapes that I thought only aluminum cans could accomplish.

Although I was able to improve my autocross techniques and work on evasive maneuvers, I kept thinking back to something I would feel more confident driving, such as a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon or the recently driven Lexus GX.

So, my question to you guys is what vehicle would you feel comfortable driving in the worst conditions imaginable. What would make you feel safe when all hell is breaking loose around you?

Let us know in the comments below.

And, for the curious I still do not have power. I was actually contemplating doing this story VIA BlackBerry. Yikes...

What a stupid topic. This epitomize Autospies' lack of original materials and reliance on other people's findings. Having said that, Autospies' exclusive pics of auto show 1 day before official opening is amazing.

Just like Elvis wished that everyday could be like Christmas, we wish everyday was an auto show.

Also who cares about trees falling and a little wind, I am more worried about, from a natural disaster standpoint, all the earthquakes happening worldwide. California is next and I am worried San Andreas will split the state in half or what about a 200 foot tsunami. That's Armageddon boys and girls.

I thought there was a kilometer high tsunami that hit Alaska within the past couple hundred years... pretty sure the world didn't end then.

Also Cali splitting in half isn't going to end the world for those of us in the midwest or on the east coast. Sure there would be food shortages and a huge hit to the US economy but life will go on.

I'm in westchester county. Supposedly we got hit the worst. A huuuuge tree fell on my property and knocked down a telephone pole and lines. Thank god it supplied power to half the block and not my side :). People still do not have power on my block and all over NYC. Supposedly its over 500,000 without power. This is two weeks after getting hit by a nasty snow storm that knocked down more trees and lines. That one DID knock out my power which was restored 4 days later so i can relate to this topic. After this past month i wouldn't feel safe in any vehicle other than a tank. I say this because my next door neighbors Ford f150 was crushed by a telephone pole and dimolished so I can only imagine a tree. No car in mass production would survive a tree falling on it and more than likely you are dead if you are in the car.

I am in Weschester too, my office (compound) in Purchase only has power because of back up generators that are running 24/7. My parents on Long Island still have no power, and do not expect it till thursday or friday.

I would feel safe in anyhing American with a V8 and true four wheel drive. But honeslty, when you got a 100foot Pine tree bearing down on you, no even a tank can save you.

Mercedes G55 AMG or a Land Rover Defender, but I think the story is kind of pointless.

@rxh8me9000 - things in Fairfield county aren't any better, I am still without power and have a tree down across my street in front of my house.

I'll take a Jeep Commander Limited (which I currently own) otherwise it'd have to be a Hummer H1 or H2. It has to be able to take a hit and be able to hit back.
