If you were given the choice of taking the keys of a BMW 750li or a Lexus LS460 Sport which would you choose?
Although I must admit that I have always been a Mercedes Benz fan and have only test drove the 7 a couple of times, I was wondering how it holds up against the new LS Sport. Now I must say before hand that I have never been near or touched a Lexus of any kind before so it would not be fair for me to judge between the two flagships. Ever since the new LS Sport came out I have been hearing a lot of good news on the performance and handling especially and I was wondering how good could it possibly be. But the real question is who would you guys take?

Please fill me in.

Maybe just 750i instead of the 750Li? Those few inches make little difference in performance, but they do make a lot of difference in terms of rear passenger comfort. aha

hmm... call me weird, but even though I like the immense and consistent power from the biturbos in the 7-series, it's just not the same as the naturally aspirated engine in the LS. The LS Sport sure can be a lot of fun when you turn into "Sport" and "Power" modes and use the paddle shifters. Even without the paddle shifters, the power delivery is sensational when you drive the LS "manually".

However, I like how in the 7-series, there still are ends to meet and discover in the new Nav system, while in the LS, even though I only test drove the new one for a few minutes, I already know everything about the Nav. I enjoy how in the 750i I test drove, I kept saying, "Oh, I didn't know this car could do this." (Yeah, I know, that's a point down for practicality for the 7er)

Btw, the LS Sport was a friend's. He special ordered it. There aren't many of them around, even at Longo Lexus.

I'm with you. The 750i is what I'd choose, and because I live in the upper midwest, I'd probably go with the xdrive.

there aren't many around because the average LS buyer is 62 years old and has not interest in anything resembling sporty driving.

Tested the 760Li, what a fantastic car. Not many cars on the Autobahn can keep up with this beast. Plus all the gimmicks, unbelievable. So my vote goes to the 7er.

Did not have the chance to test the LS Sport, only got my hands on an LS and well, not impressed.

Here in Middle East, 750li and newly introduced 2010 LS600hL cost roughly the same. So LS600hL for me.

As for the question if given a choice/free than i would take BMW 750li over LS460L.
Both cars have plus and negative points.

Here in the West Coast, I would choose the BMW 7 series. Nothing against Lexus, but 7 is a drivers car.

that wasn't the question. they are comparing the LS460 sport the 750. the relevant comparison to the LS600 is the active hybrid 7.

Between both cars I would choose the BMW. I tested the 750Li and it has excellent dynamics especially when you look at its size and weight. Unfortunately I did not drive a Lexus LS460 but I had couple of rides in it and to be frank I was not impressed by the ride or the interior. The BMW interior was more luxurious and had more neat touches. But in my country, BMW is at least 30K USD more expensive than the Lexus. It should give you more for that money, and in my opinion it does.

So you'd choose Laura Bush over Beyonce, based off a times artice? Or do you think that Laura Bush is more attractive? Or are you just plain racist?

TurdoSpyder has often revealed himself to be a racist of the first order.

he actually believes that SIMPLY due to the relative number of nobel laureates, EVERYTHING from japan is inherently inferior to ANYTHING from germany.

I respect that most people buy a Lexus for their ability to waft the driver around without a care but I would prefer the more driver oriented 750LI.

can a bently or RR charge over railroad tracks with NO reduction in speed, and back seat occupants not even having their champagne glasses spill a drop?

half of these comments are based on the LS460 non-sport model...drive the sport variation and believe me, it's very driver oriented!

our own 001, i believe, stated it was a better vehicle in terms of drivability than the MB S550. very bold statement and tho I havent driven the S550, i'm going to take his word on it for now...

The pleasure to enjoy something is when you buy a real and original things, like a Cartier Santos watch , Mont Blanc pen or a Persol sunglasses,Mercedes Benz, why you going to buy a copy theirs is just one reason, no money to buy the real. Why is a pleasure to buy a copy that they never use talent or time to design they just buy a real, check how they maked and do theirs own "design" so very easy... I really hate this.

As nice as the LS is, in this showdown they are completely unarmed.

But so are ALL the others that compete against the 7.

NONE of them can beat the total package of the 7.

Well ...schitzel snausage or Sushi? Well for me preference for the LS460L with the optional seating package for the rear seats.Espcecially if i am being chauffeured around.

In reality, give me a light tossable rwd car. 2nd hand S2k or the upcoming FT-86. (Left out the miata mx-5 as it is frightfully more expensive then the a second hand post 2004 s2k (2.2))

Neither. You don't buy an overweight luxury car for sportiness, you buy it for luxury first and if it happens to be a little "sporty" on the side then that's an added bonus but not the primary consideration.
