It just doesn't look right to me. A little too long but not high enough. Looks more of a cross-over/wagon than an actual SUV.

You sound like having the GL look like a wagon is bad.
It still offers the same room as a 'traditional' (ie. loaf of bread) type SUV, but with sleek looks.
If you want to drive the automotive equivalent of a fridge, buy a SUV from the GM range.

Looks are ok on this thing, though if I were to spend this kind of cash, I would go over to Land Rover and drop it on one of those vehicles....

This is a great car, but has one big problem to it--the Q7. It looks better, is cheaper, and its an Audi--superb inetrior, and the best built quality.
The car is great just came out at the wrong time, or is MB affraid of Audi??
LR3--NO! It is not reliable and good looking enough, and XC90--for the same price I DO care about the badge on the hood

LOL, Audi is seen in Europe as better than MB and BMW....MB are all around as taxi cabs....not saying I don't like MB, quite the contrary...I just hate when people say "Oh Audi is a low man on the totem pole playing out of its league." Well maybe in some American's eyes it is....But Audi is more advance in many of its build and quality than the other brands. The Audi was one of the first companies to utilize the All Aluminum Spaceframe... also may other advances (awd on all its cars, etc.) I find it funny you say it will be another flop, Audi has been on a roll and is still up in sales.... Volvo more prestigious than Audi, hmmm not sure about that.... Volvo to me is more a utility vehicle. Not very prestigious. Lexus? Its on its way, but is still viewed as an expensive Toyota to many. and remember my friend, the Porsche Cayenne you refer to shares its platform with the Audi Q7...

I like the look of the new GL. It's a refreshing break from the giant refrigerator box on wheels look of most full-size SUVs. My only issue, after seeing it at the Chicago Auto Show, is the question of it's truly a full-size SUV. It's too narrow and too short to truly compete with the 2007 Escalade and does not possess the prestigious look of the Range Rover. I think pricing is going to make or break this thing and knowing MB, they'll probably set a pretty high mark.
Also, I'd like to defend my LR3 against a comment made above regarding its reliability. I've had a late year 2005 model since August and couldn't be happier (well, save for a few extra MPGs maybe).

U seem to not know much about cars... first u say that u can not comapare audi with the MB, and than u compare it with Volvo???
BTW Volvo uses many old Audi's engines, and technology.
Lexus: this "expensive toyota" does not even have a car in the Q7 range.. RX300 is far from it
Just because the name Cadillac used to be good, does not mean it still is...it is just another car with expensive badge on it.
Just to "refresh" you of the top: MB is still no.1 in overall, but BMW and Audi are pounding it bad. Audi is no longer for people who canot have a Mercedes or a BMW, but for those who want the good sides of both in one better car

Being bought by VW is not at all a bad thing... its a good thing for both of them. U dont say lambo is bad, because audi bought it
And maybe im not like you because in europe, audi has been known for its quattro for the last 25 years, although the cars were, like you said, not quite in the same class as Mb or BMW. But now they are leading...
A6 is clearly in front of the line, and I would say the same for the A8, but in that class, all cars are good, just depends what you preffer....me?--audi
Sorry for getting upset back there
About the value... i would do anything if it were true where i live... here audi is more expensive than the mercedes and bmw. I think the reason for being cheap in america is the fact that it is not as popular there... my advice to u...go and buy one while u still can...i know i would
