THROWBACK! Are Classic Cars "Dead" As We See History Repeat Itself?

THROWBACK! Are Classic Cars
CNNLiving reports:

ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- Today's automakers prize function over form, and there are few if any cars being made that will be "classics" in 50 years, comedian and car buff Tim Allen said.

"I'm passionate about automotive art, and there isn't any," he said.

Many enthusiasts argue classics are in the eyes of the keyholders, but Allen's not the only collector noticing history repeating itself.

Chevy's new Camaro, Ford's Mustang and even Mercedes' AMG Gullwing harken back to designs popular five decades ago.

"It's not an art piece, that Gullwing; it just reminds people my age, 'Oh, the Gullwing,' " Allen said....

As the owner of a '34 Ford hot rod I appreciate its honesty and directness. You and the machine are one. There is nothing filtering out the sounds, feel and smell of motoring down the road. You feel and
hear every piece of the machine working and its response to whatever the road throws at it. You are directly influenced by what is really going on under you and you can directly influence it by your actions not by a computer. Similar feeling to what a jockey must get riding a great thoroughbred. In modern cars the technology is impressive but it distances the driver from the experience of man and machine working together in unison. It makes every drive special. Classics have personalities, flawed as they may be but engaging and entertaining. Modern cars are savy but lack real soul.

IMO, body cladding is to the 80s as fins were to the 50's.

The cars that were recently cool, but are now looked at with disdain are going to be the next generation of classics. From my teen years I see cars like the 3rd generation 5.7 liter F body, 3.0 SHO, Dodge Spirit R/T and some of the '80s Chrysler Shelby cars becoming classics. They may not hold a ton of $ value, but will still be classics.
