Nissan LEAF EV sold for less than $44,300 in Japan
According to the latest reports, it appears that the Nissan LEAF Electric Vehicle will be sold in Japan for between Y3.5 million-Y4 million, the Mainichi Shimbun reported Wednesday. This means $38,600 to $44,190. The Japanese manufacturer also plans to launch the car in Japan, Europe and the U.S. this autumn. The new Nissan Leaf will even cheaper than Mitsubishi’s i-MiEV electric model, priced at around $44,300.

Depends on what the price is relative to the cost of living and to other cars in Japan. Never trust direct conversions of currency for meaning.

Can't wait to see what they sell for here in the US. My guess: $35,000 with $7,500 Fed credit = $27,500.

Interesting how many people made a proper bitching when the price of the Chevy Volt was announced. Yet, a vehicle which is clearly a rung below the Volt is announced at similar prices the response is barely a murmur.

No Thanks, give me a slightly use BMW 335i coupe or a Infiniti G37S and I will still probably have enough for gas to have fun for 1 or 2 years.

This thing is one UGLy car, I know it an Electric Vechicle but they need to make it more appealing. Most people Cannot afford a $40k + car even when the economy is still good, so how the hell someone is able to afford this car in this bad economy?
