Study says that Ford, Honda and Vw have fewest extended service claims
A study conducted by the extended service contract administrator Warrantech based on claims history revealed which vehicles were the most reliable for their categories in 2009.

Among the models listed are those that come from Fords, Hondas and Volkswagens. In particular, Warrantech cited the (1) Asian brands: Honda Pilot and CR-V crossovers and Civic small car; (2) Domestics: Ford Ranger and F-150 pickups and Escape crossover; and (3) European brands: Volkswagen Beetle and Jetta and Passat sedans.

Well

Waiting to hear from the many idiots who constantly talk of VW unreliability.

Badge h is right on... also be and Honda have one of the smallest number of cars on the road compared to the other manufacturers that put out several more cars on the road. So of course be and Honda should have less problems.

bw, extended warranty claims means that it is past the OEM Warranty period, which for VW is 5 years or 50-60K miles (my guess), so this is not for 1 year old cars. The study was conducted in 2009 for older models.
It does not surprise me. VW have been good cars in recent years. perception always lags data.

I agree with Badge W (whore starts with a W, upwards). I have a friend who has a 2004 Skoda Octavia (VW Jetta to the Yanks) and no sooner than the warranty ran out the transmission quit. I mean catastrophic failure. It was replaced as a part of a "good will" gesture by Wolfsburg but the car itself is a dog. Another friend in NY has a 2001 Jetta that every time I ask her how it is she starts her answer with either a chuckle or a "...well..what had happened was..." LMAO! But the tragic thing is that they both love the damn shit buckets! I have no clue why. I grew up with VWs all my life and grew to love them...until I started to observe their piss poor reliability. Are they improving? I have no idea. Would I buy one? I'd consider a diesel model.

One case does not make a trend or prove anything. Maybe your friends did not service their cars. I have had the opposite experience with a Jetta and my brother with a Passat. No complaints at all. Would i buy another one? if I needed to tight down maybe. in the menatime, Audi's are my choice.
