RUMOR: If Opel's Rumored Coupe Makes Production Would You Want It As The New Buick Riviera?
From our friends at Auto Bild, we have a rendering of a rumored Opel Manta. Clearly, the basis of the vehicle can be seen as the Opel Insignia, which will be making its way to our shores in the form as the Buick Regal.

So, with that in mind we want to know: do you want to see the Opel Manta come to the U.S. as the Buick Riviera?

Make sure to click "Read article" to get a look at the rendering featured on Auto Bild

Rumors have circulated that Buick has been debating building a coupe in order to inject some youth into the brand and this writer think that this may just do the trick -- in addition to the Regal GS.

Am I being a bit too hopeful or should we prepare ourselves for a proper GNX?

If this car does get produced, someone has to figure out a way to get the CTS-V's motor under the hood...

I would like to see the riviera comeback strong its been a long time since the one made from the olds aurora platform. I think they should make the riviera but i wouldnt say make it a small coupe i think it needs to be big to follow the previous model. Also being that its going to be a coupe buick neeeds to stay within the design and not go too overboard. This could be the car that puts buick on the map

It would be fine if they built a real Riviera. They were the only buick back in the day that were not for old dudes. In fact, they were not even thought of as a Buick. Make it cool and not a boring gray or biege sedan.

@bf

Well, then by those standards that you mention - not for old dudes, not thought as a Buick - the Opel Manta a.k.a. Buick Riviera GS ;) would be a perfect fit!

I agree that would be a good start. My 'old dude' comment was based on the atmosphere of the buick name. I just remember the Riviera standing out as being different and with cool features. Bringing back nameplates from the past is a good thing, but I just like to see the legacy with it.

If they brought in the 2.8 v6 turbo engine it would be a nice dd to own.

Looks like a great car, but I think there must be a better name. "Riviera" was a large flagship car. This would be a great sports coupe to add to the line. Skylark? Skyhawk? Or a new moniker? I'd save Riviera for a higher prestige product.

I say no. The Riviera has always been a "Personal Luxury" car like a Mercury Cougar or a Ford Thunderbird. Much larger than the Regal/Insignia (on which this coupe will be based) is. I say stick to the historic nomenclature. This coupe should be called Regal GN-X (note the hyphen). Use many overboosted turbochargers and create the sort of magic that the original GNX did back in the day.

Has their been any thought to Buickizing the CTS coupe. The Riviera should be a premium coupe with some punch and I am not sold on an Opel carrying out that mission. If Buick could do to the CTS what Lincoln did to the Flex (which is to say you would not know they were related) then this could be the home run Buick really needs to get back on the map.
