Toyota : The ultimate Taliban driving machine

Toyota : The ultimate Taliban driving machine
Talibans are well known for being a little hard on cars. When they aren't exploding them in public markets, they're often driving them in difficult locations, far from car washes and dealership.

I cam across that funny article on MSN auto that state that the Toyota Land Cruiser is "the most preferred vehicle amongst the Taliban"

ahhaha... reminds me of those videos saying how the trucks get important ambassadors through chaotic roads, but those videos never mentioned that the opponents could also use the same trucks.

whether used by good guys or bad guys, just proves that TOYOTAs are universally recognized as the TUFFEST, most reliable, and SIMPLY THE BEST VEHICLES, when the closest carwash is 1000s of miles away and even repair shops are rare to non-existent.

Yes you have to have the iq of a terrorist to believe that.

then why do so many RICH guys in 3rd world countries believe it, and make the LC the vehicle of choice?

Hummvee vs Toyota Hilux pick-up. Which do you prefer?

You can probably get 4-5 Hilux's for the price of 1 Hummer.

Save the best (and most expensive) for America's armed forces.

people ASSume hummers are great only because they cost so much. in actuality, as a VEHICLE that needs to accelerate, brake, corner, etc. IT SUCKS!!!

it's ONLY virtue is being slow (runs on diesel) and more resistant to being blown up. (which a good many get to be anyway).

as a getaway vehicle for a bunch of bank robbers, it is NO CONTEST to pick a Hilux/Tacoma as the superior escape artist.

All versions of Land Cruiser(LC200, Series II, LC pickup, Prado and Cygnus aka LX570) and Hilux Pickup are some of the most toughest vehicles. By tough it doesn't mean only great crash test ratings but these vehicles can run for like 10-15 years without a service and very poor usage. These are extremely reliable cars. No other vehicle comes close maybe only Nissan Patrol and older models of Mitsubishi Pajero and Defender.

true.

some may remember the video clip of j. clarkson trying to KILL an already aged Hilux diesel pickup. they just could NOT DO IT! even after having a high tide drown it, once dried out it ran again!

i know some guys who got a LC temporarily drowned in a lake too. they came back with a retrieval vehicle and tow chain. while under tow, the guy in the LC wondered whether it could be tow-started. it COULD, and it ended up being driven home!

Top Gear is an entertainment show so everything they do tends to be exaggerated. A diesel pickup Hilux submerged in water for a few hours won't start because water would have entered the diesel fuel tank as well as the engine. Water in diesel fuel used to be a problem on older cars and often rendered the car unstartable.

Is it really a surprise that the enemy wants to use a capable and reliable vehicle just as much as anyone else?
