Chrysler considering a unibody small pickup positioned below the Dakota
Chrysler is considering a unibody small pickup to be slotted below the Dakota, which will end its production in 2011.

Joe Veltri, Chrysler Group vice president of product planning, said that the company wants something that will separate itself from the full-sized truck further, in terms of the capability, price and size. Veltri said that the Ram brand has “room to expand into a compact-truck segment.” In an interview conducted at the National Truck Equipment Association’s Work Truck Show in St. Louis, Veltri had declined to give a time frame for the truck.

As long as it looks nothing like Honda's Ridgeline (so-called unibody trucklet), it should be fine.

This is a good idea. Most people that purchase small trucks don't require huge payloads or towing. This idea lends itself to a lighter more efficent small truck. I also think if Honda would have made the Ridgeline more truck attractive it would have done better.

I hope it is along the lines of the Dodge M80 concept. That was a wild looking, little ride.

No wonder Chrysler is going under. I guess they thought Ford Rangers was a real success.

Bring back the Jeep Comanche...turns out that it was Unibody with a front and rear subframes.
Chrysler need to remember two things (1) make it be able to haul 2000 lbs or more (think small bass boat or camper)
(2) Make it CHEAP...$30K for a Ford Ranger is just absurd...one more reason to repeal the "Chicken Tax" that prevents importation of Small Trucks from Thailand Like the Tata Xenon which sells for $17,000 to $19,000
