First real sneak peek the next Audi TT

posted this earlier in the Q7 Pikes Peak Blog! Glad you made it available for everyone to see...I think this car will be hot!

Here is the first official sketch of the next-gen production TT:



Initial engines will be the 250hp 3.2 and 200hp 2.0T. a 280-300hp 3.6 liter engine is in the wings to either replace the 3.2 or be used for the possible TTS variant.

The new TT's body will also make considerable use of aluminum for reduced weight, and is rumored to have a highly redesigned Haldex AWD system that sends the majority of the torque to the back wheels for better driving dynamics.

Unlike the outgoing TT, the new car is focused on high performance. This will include the reduction (or elimination) of oversteer and evenly balanced weight distribution.

All official information will be made available on March 6th.

This car will smoke everyone in its class (i hope), only SLK and Z4 stand in its way
350Z--good car, but has some problems...problem no. 1--the Renault's engine..that is bad..
2nd- styling is not exactly brilliant, to much of a square, like cadillacs

Audi said this car will also be badged RS--wait and see

350Z? Don't see that in the sketch. Audi is on a roll with all its new vehicles and I think will do well with this redesign. I can't wait! So many new cars coming out, so little money to buy them all!!

It's a Nissan motor which is used in some Renault models.

What's wrong with Renault engines? Even Suzuki wanted their new 1.9 diesel in the new Vitara, so the Vitara diesel is Renault powered.

The TT looks like a nice evolution, better than I anticipated.

Dont get me wrong i think the 350z is a great car, but i cannot agree about the engine. Renault makes good small economical engines, but a 3.5l V6 from the VelSatis is not the engine that should be fitted into the 350z (my opinion), because VelSatis is suppoes to be a business car not a sports car. But I think it is ok, because Nissan did afterall have its finger mixed up in all this and refinded it.


TT--wait and see my I think its going to be great. Looks like it will also have a lift up spoiler on the back ;)

Yes, the new TT is confirmed to have a pop-up rear spoiler.

Other technologies to look forward to are a new 7 speed DSG, touch-screen MMI, and the Haldex version of rear-biased quattro.

As far as the 350Z vs. the TT, the 4 year old 350Z is a slightly better performing track car than the 9 year old outgoing TT. This will not be the case when the new TT comes out. The new performance-focused Audi is expected to easily outmaneuver the Nissan.

The new TT will obviously be a vastly superior overall car to the 350Z. The Audi will boast a superior rear-biased AWD system, considerably more interior room, far better quality interior, and superior reliability (Audi is now one of Europe's top 10 most reliable companies, Nissan is not).

I actually don't think the 350Z will be a strong competitor to the new TT until Nissan releases its next major redesign. The cars that the new TT is really going after are the BMW Z4, the Merc SLK, and the segment champ Porsche Boxter. With Audi's recent focus on performance, the new improved TT actually stands a chance to finally outclass its competitors.

We'll just have to wait and see....

Yes you are probably right about the engine. My source was top gear's Jeremy Clakson--how ever did I listen to him.
I agree about the interior finishing and built quality about the TT, and I also agree about 350z's better performance, BUT NOT ALWAYS. A quattro driven TT, has some advantages, and considering there is snow outside my house right now, 350z will not get me anywhere.

350Z is slightly better than the outgoing TT...

I have actually driven both. I'm a car enthusiast who sometimes tracks cars that I own as well as ones I don't. And yes I do own an Audi (A4 sedan & cab). I really liked the 350Z, mostly because it's a rear-drive car. I found it to be a solid sports car for the price. However, I also found it quite heavy for a two-wheel drive sports coupe. I attribute this mostly to the Nissan's corporate 3.5 liter six, which is an awesome engine, but relies a bit too much on brute-force displacement to yield big power numbers (unlike German engines, which tend to be lighter and more powerful at the same time). Also, I found the interior to be badly designed, and poorly manufactured. It also came no-where near my favorite handling sports coupe/roadster: the Porsche Boxter. As for cars in it's price range, I found that the Mazda Miata was a more enjoyable drive and cost less. But I do not mean to bag on the 350Z. I think its a great car, and a fine successor to the original. I would certainly consider one if I were looking at cars in its price range. But the 350Z does not 'destroy' the TT, especially not the 250hp DSG and certainly not the 240hp Quattro Sport. The 350Z is indeed superior, but not by much.

But I do agree that the old TT, albeit a beautiful car inside and out, is not a class-leading sports car. It was created well before Audi's recent push for high-performance sports technology.

In a recent episode of Fifth Gear, the 350Z was re-matched against the TT quattro Sport.

The TT was lighter and of a higher build quality. When the two cars were raced, the 350Z edged out the TT by a slight margin in terms of track time. Both cars were praised, but the rear drive 350Z was favored (again by a modest margin) because it was more fun to modulate the throttle when the tail lost control. The TT on the other hand was considered too 'controlled' due to the all-wheel drive.

And I didn't buy a TT precisely for that very reason. I didn't like that it had a front-biased AWD system (unlike the universally praised rear-biased Torsen quattro on the S4, RS4, S6, and S8), and that it really wasn't a performance focused car.

The new TT however is expected to easily rival cars like the 350Z, and aim at the higher goal of competing with BMW and Porsche. I also like that its design is sleeker and more agressive than the iconic original.

And this is what this post is about, the new TT.

If the new TT is everything the advanced info says it is, I will certainly buy one, and even post pics on this site!

A 280ZX is NOT a 350Z. A 300Z is NOT a 350Z.

Second, the reason for my posting was because you obviously greatly dislike the Audi TT, not because you come over all giddy whenever a 280 drives by. (Italian designed, by the way)

The TT, although it doesn't have the heritage of the Nissan, is a fine example of automotive design and a real icon of this decade.

I think it is quite a triumph that a car which was designed in 1994 (the TT) is still a fresh design icon even today.

Also, I never compared the 350Z to the TT, but would not be surprised if the 350Z was a better drivers car.

However, I still find the 350Z rather vulgar and the interior is 'cheap', when compared with the ground-breaking TT interior. I say ground-breaking because it was, mass-produced cars seldom came with such a concept-car like interior, full of aluminium and racing-style design elements.

And by the way, Byung, soppy memories do not account for car knowledge. And yes, I know full well what a 280ZX looks like. And the TT DOES have a very loyal fan base.

--what is wrong with this. The day RWD 350z will have more grip than an AWD TT, especially in sand and dirt (where the top gear people tested them) i will be cleaning the toilets with my fingers.

third: problem with the TT-- The TT was never designed to be an "I dont know what" sports car. Most of the people that buy a TT, buy it because of its design and/or brilliant built quality.
If Audi decides to make a sports car better than a 350z they can and will do so. However, that does mean increased price, more work, more stuff to go wrong.... You have to understand that cars, although in the same segment, are not there with the same purpose.

Obviously your line of thinking is from the 'old school', and while I have no real issues with that, you are entitled to have fond memories of old American muscle cars, you must admit that the Americans lost the plot quite a few years ago.

And if your too old to appreciate modern cars like the TT, then maybe you should stay off the TT topics.

Reliability is linked to simplicity.

American cars do so well because they are so simple. Basic cars for people who don't like cars.


I bet if your beloved muscle cars had a few minor issues you wouldn't care, because they exude a charm and character that makes you connect with them on a emotional level.

Try saying that about bread-and-butter Camrys and Corollas.

No one falls in love with boring cars, no matter how reliable they are.

If you can remember that, then maybe you would have a little respect for people who buy Audi's and Alfa's and Mercedes-Benz's.

Audi A4 2.0T vs. Infiniti G35x
Well, Audi has been beaten here, but comparing a 2l turbo was stupid. Audi made the engine to be economical, while still having some performance in it. If they wanted it to beat the infinity they could do so, but that wasnt their aim in this point.
You must also understand that even though the horsepower increases greatly, the acceleration doesnt. That is like saying that a BUGATTI sucs, because it has 5 times more horsepower, while being just 3 seconds faster.. STUPID

INFINITI M45 vs. Audi A6

Audi's engine is also old. It is also one of the top 5 best engines in the WORLD. In this case Audi is a clear winner in my eyes.
It is bigger, heavier, 4WD... that all slow it down. I do not want to argue about the Audi A6 class. Audi A6 is the reason why I love Audi. It came out transformed, and since than it is the number 1 in its class. If anyone disagrees with this, I will swim across the ocean and nag u until u agree with me. I fell that strongly. When it first came out i hated it, and every day for the last year and the half I love it more and more. WHY??--It came in took over, crowned itself king and is waiting there until the next model line ups appear.

AUDI A6 IS THE BEST LOOKING; SAFEST; MOST RELIABLE; WITH THE BEST AWD SYSTEM IN THE WORLD; BEST INTERIOR; 3 OF THE TOP TEN BEST ENGINES; MOST ECONOMICAL.... CAR IN ITS SEGMENT. (FOR NOW THAT IS)
All of you remember this....this is why Audi is so respected here.

Now back on topic.... TT... I cant wait for the real thing to be showed and tested... I am really looking forward to this car, but from what I see so far.... well... I dont really see enough

Fact is, Audi has already arrived. Audi is already equal and often superior to BMW, Merc, and especially second-tier companies like Infinity/Nissan.

Get used to it people, or let progress (and a 420hp Audi RS4) run right over you.

1. Reliability tests:
-they are done on older cars (didnt think of that did u)
-they are rubbish (they exist only to help car sellers brag about cars, and make us argue)
-I actually know how this is done... a person with a corolla will say the car is great because it goes, person with a Mercedes S-class will say its bad because the plastic rear light holder is vibrating. This is not accurate in my eyes so I say it is pointless.
-the tests are a lot of times made up by people's preferences, who tell their own opinion
-my car is 15 years old. it spend 12 years outside, where it goes bellow frezzing point during winter. In magasines' and car fans' eyes my car (Opel Vectra) is a piece of junk. My friend changed 3 lexuses in that time. Does that mean Lexus is rubbish???? NO!!! My Opel is still going despite being written on the internet as on of the most unrealiable cars of its day.If u did a reliability test on ur own cars u can brag about it, looking at a webpage ful of names is useless.---On one other forum we found out it only causes arguements, locking topics, banning users... So no more of that.


The AUDI A6 I was talking about is the new one. It has so far never been counted in reliability tests where people send in their opinion. I agree old Audis were not close to being the best.

I have been a car fan for some time now and until last year I would agree with most of you on Audi.
BUT WHAT HAPPENED??? AUDI RENEWED ITSELF!!!
That is why I love the A6. My love comes simply from this:

Understand that Audi is made more for fuel economy as it is for sportiness. It achieves that and as a result infinity owns it in sportiness. We will compare sportiness when audi decides to make a SPORTY A6---RS6. If infinity beats it then, it is a better sport car. OK? THAT CLEAR? U always have to understand the purpose behind each car. The 4.2 engine is there just so people with excess money can give them more not to show off. See also every engine is here for a reason.

If u r asking urself why do i care about fuel economy heres the answer:
i dont have money to pay for fuel. I know in america, its not just cheaper to buy a car, but also fuel it. I AM VERY JEALOUS OF THAT FACT!!!
but the prices will rise and soon u will find urself with a 4+ liter car, which u cannot maintain.

If u are asking urself why the A6 class, the answer is simple. That is the highest class of cars you can compare and say which one is better.
Mercedes S, and Audi A8 (and others of course) cannot be compared. These kind of cars u buy with heart not knowledge of cars. I call them dictator cars, because u are not allowed to say anything against them! Well im not. =(

The new Audi A6 is better than its competition and thats it, no arguements. Now of course u can disagree, and tell ur opinion, but I have been working on this car class for 2 years now, and my conclusion is Audi A6 is the king (for now).
If Infiniti was so good they could easily start selling it in europe, but people there would rather buy the audi, mercedes, bmw... IT would be a loss for infiniti.

I am not saying Infiniti is a bad car, opposite to that, its great, but Audi A6 is the leader for now.

Talking about the past is useless. Ford used to be number one in the world back when the T-model was made. IT IS NOT SO NOW!!! Actually wasnt it Ford himself that said each newer car is better??? Audi A6 is the newest in its class so far, and until competition changes it will remain.

Ho hum...

It's getting a little boring to read desperate and somewhat out-of-touch car fans trying to put down Audi. Still good for little chuckle though.

Anyway, real world magazine tests in Europe put the RS4 at around 4.2 to 4.4 seconds to 60 mph, which is considerably faster in the straight line than the M3. Audi's official numbers are always conservative (just look at the real world 6.4 and 5.9 second 0-60 times of A4 2.0T & 3.2 manual quattros respectively).

Not to mention that the RS4 is universally considered to be far superior to the current M3 in terms of handling and track performance. End of story.

We will wait and see if BMW's upcoming 400hp V8 M3, costing upwards of $70k, can out-pace the Audi RS4. But in the words of Top Gear's host (who proclaims the RS4's 4.2L V8 as "the world's best engine"), "The new M3 better offer the moon if it's to be better than the RS4". Yes the RS4 is that astonishingly good.

And just in case the new M3 does in fact surpass the RS4, Audi has the all-new RS5, built on the company's exclusive and revolutionary new flexible platform architecture, waiting in the wings to trounce the BMW a year 1/2 later.

I actually have nothing against BMW (despite its yuppie-poser-ignoramus association). It's just that Audi is starting to bump off BMW's throne, one model at a time.

Deal with it people.

A4 0-60 times.

A4 2.0T quattro manual Real World 0-60 times:
- 6.4 seconds(Road & Track)
- 6.5 seconds (Car & Driver)

A4 3.2 Multitronic Real World 0-60 times:
- 6.1 seconds (RHD Road Test)
A4 3.2 quattro manual Real World 0-60 times:
- 5.9 seconds (Euro Car)

Note: The A4 quattro with the soon-to-be discontinued Tiptronic has, up until recently, been the only 3.2 variant that has been tested in the straight line. The resulting 0-60 times were dreadful. Now, the much, much faster manual and Multitronic variant data is coming in. Significantly quicker 0-60 times are reflecting the lighter and more efficient variants.

Tiptronic will be phased-out starting next year and be replaced by the new 7-speed longitudinal engine DSG. All outgoing Tiptronic models will shave up to a full second of their 0-60 straight line performance when they transition to DSG.

Models like the A6 4.2 quattro will especially enjoy massive performance gains as the V8 bumps to 350hp and DSG replaces Tiptronic.

1. Economical engines .......why?
-In Europe 1 liter of DIESEL is more than a dollar + cars themselves are more expensive (that answers ur question Commonsense?) ;)
-Best selling engines on these cars in Europe:
-Audi A6 - 2.0TDi and 2.7Tdi (diesels)
-BMW 5 - 2.0d and 2.5d (diesels)
-MB E - 2.0d and 2.2d (diesels)
-High fuel prices have not reached US.... yet, so enjoy it (that is why we dont agree on the same topic)

2. Audi being as good as MB or BMW
-we are talking about the new A6, not old (in which case i'd agree)

MMI - I have it, its great-(on the A6 and A8, dont like it so much in old A6, or A4 though), i like it a bit more than iDrive (in new A6 and A8), but Mercedes, and everyone that has buttons still in the dash are complicated and ugly...I mean most cars have 5+ buttons with no function....USELESS (THAT DOES NOT MAKE THEM LESS GOOD OF A CAR)

Just for some 411 the 207 A6 4.2 will have 350 hp which will change everything about the competition. And you are right about the panache thing but thats changing too. As people become more aware it changes things rapidly. For the record Audi sold more A8 W12's in the states than MB sold S600 which says alot. Audi also has been selling out of complete stock on A4's since the new 2005.5 body style. BMW, Infiniti, Lexus nor MB can claim that. Also Audi out sells BMW 3 to 1 in Europe and BM only outsells them here by 2 to 1 which is only driven by the panache factor and ego stroke we need as Americans. And I think we all know that in Europe MB is a Taxi!
