DEBATE: What Is It About Lexus' CT200h That You LIKE/DISLIKE?
As it was announced yesterday, the all-new Lexus CT200h will be making its way to the States. And, if the latest vehicles from Lexus have not shown a company that is in the process of changing its image, the CT may be the car to convince you.

In Lexus' first hatchback attempt it has delivered a hybrid that looks like a cross between an IS and the LF-Ch concept.

When I first saw the LF-Ch, I thought it was a stunning concept. Now that it has gone through a bit of attrition to put it into production, it appears that its exterior is not nearly as handsome as the interior. This is an area that Lexus continues to grow and get better with.

Not entirely convinced? Take a look at the full photo gallery below OR look at the all-new GX460s interior. It is splendid.

The Spies want to know what you think about the all-new CT200h. What are its strong/weak points and what do you believe makes this a compelling vehicle?

And, while we are at it -- is the HS250h dead in its tracks with the CT on the horizon?

What I like is that it seems like Lexus is now finally being creative and starting their own thing.... what I dislike about it is that I can not try it yet....

Somehow the interior doesn't look upscale, though better than 1 series. I guess this makes more sense in terms of niche segment than X6 or upcoming 0 series..... except if BMW can make it hydrogen-powered!

Its just a HS with a hatch. The HS is just a Prius with a Lexus badge in sedan form. Im actually still trying to find out what everyone likes about that vehicle.

I don't know about you, but it looks nothing like a HS or a Prius for that matter. But then again, this is a comment coming from the guy with the Cadillac symbol as his avatar.

and in any case, what exactly is so bad about ANY car being Prius-like?

the Prius is not only the most technologically advanced car costing less than $30,000, but the most efficient as well. also, it made the Kamm-back tail into a handsome design, which no one else had done previously. including the german inventors.

The HS250 looks like a Corolla. I don't care how they dress it up. The CT has Matrix silhouette.

Just another economy car. Put any badge you want on it, it looks low rent.

Where to start? Hmmm... The current Honda Accord sedan front end, the cheaper looking hatchback design, fwd, bloated proportions, etc...

Have to compare it to the Prius, because it is pretty much a sport Lexus version of the Prius. If I have to choose between this and the Prius, I'm definitely going for the CT.

How is it in any way a Prius?!?! Both are hybrids and Hatchbacks and thats about it. They don't share drivetrain they don't even look similar. You may not like it (I'm not a big fan), but the car looks like a Mazda3 Hatch more than anything else.

well you can't sell an A3 in america when it is not worth the coin you spend on in...

the CT will sell...mainly due to it's hybrid powertrain, that is a FACT!

Dislikes: Generic exterior design, too much front overhang, integration between upper and lower dash, wide center console, the MM controller, will have a high polar moment of inertia with all that mass in front of the front wheels, front and rear bumper to side integration.
Likes: Wheels, shifter, seats, rear window
Overall 1-10: 3

The HC and CT change my opinion about Lexus. Now the company is a typical japenese car company. Take the badges off and most would mistake it for a Honda or.....just a toyota.

First of all, this and the HS are both boring designs that are huge dissapointments.
One of the strongest designs lexus currently has on the market is the IS. Instead of spending all the money on developing the CT and HS why didn't they just add a hybrid system to the IS and also offer a hatchback verion?
Second, there is a reason BMW made the 1-series into a coupe to bring it to America...they don't sell here. This car is not going to be a high volume seller in any way. In that aspect I don't see why they refuse to build a car that looks good AND returns slightly above average fuel economy, that's all people really want from them and they keep dissapointing.
Third, if the CT only gets 36 mpg like the HS it is even more of a failure and in no way worth whatever the price tag will be.
I won't even go further into talking about the design of this car (fail) and will just end with, good luck lexus.

Handsome hatchback with an aggressive styling.
Couple that with its hybrid drive train and its tuned suspension, would very much like to hear how it drives !
Nice interior too.
I think this will sell well for Lexus! I think they have defined a niche that has virtually no real competition (Hybrids)

its strange reading so many negative views of a brand that is known to be conservative. I mean did you really think they would do a scion ?
if you find the A3 weird or BMW 1 series weird . Then you will find this weird !
But its pretty much up against those other to .
Audi - A4 goodness in a smaller package
BMW - Driver pleasure in a smaller package
Lexus - Ecological technology in a smaller package

Its a pretty straightforward market segment pitch. Do you like that segment or the ecological pitch Lexus seems to be driving at ? that is a whole other question ! I frankly think that segment that buys 1 series, A3 or Hybrids for the most part wouldn't even know of the existence of this website .

Why are people comparing this to a Prius or the Lexus version of the Prius? It is obviously a Matrix (Corolla) based car!

Lexus is moving their image down market in the US. A better move would have been to make the ES a hybrid only vehicle and have that over the competition.

XYZZXYZZ - 3/25/2010 1:18:33 AM

the ES is lexus' best selling sedan. why would they want to mess with that?

despite all the naysayers, i believe this car WILL sell. people put down its matrix-like profile, but the matrix was a huge hit, as a lighter and more efficient cute-ute.

this car is more distinctive in having a wrap-around backlight and the MOST DISTINCTIVE GREENHOUSE in the whole

on second thought, it's a mild stretch to compare this to a cute ute/tall wagon. only thot of that since i see a lot of AWD matrixes here where people DO find it a viable alternative to cute utes.

like the matrix, this is really more of a SPORT WAGON. (WITHOUT the oversized engine and thirst of a sport wagon.) which makes it different from the lowly HATCHBACKS of the competition.

Dash is way too busy.
Look at all these buttons?!?!?!
Seriously???
I really think that the dashboard will overwhelm a lot of people.
Looks like a bloated Mazda MS3.
Hatchbacks that sell in the U.S are the ones that are fun to drive...
This... I don't see how it can be fun to drive.

The A3 is now selling good since the TDi came out...
Not only does the A3 give incredible gas mileage, it is a blast to drive even more with the S-Tronic transmission.

I do applaud Lexus for bringing this car over here, but I am not sure it will be successful, just like the old IS 300 Cross wagon.

It looks like a functional car, nothing special, I wouldn't want to spend any extra money on this, a nice car but nothing that stands out, it's not too sporty and not utilitarian enough.

What I don't like about it is that they presented a really great concept and then it ended up looking like a fancy Mazda 3.

FWD - boring. Hybrid - yawn. Front end - yeeech! Dashboard - really? Overall - why?

I like the interior. The Stitched leather around the center console and the top of the dashboard looks nice. Cool gauges and I actually like pop-up Navs. The exterior? I think the C-Pillar design looks busy and odd, and the entire front-end looks boring and dated. The rest of the exterior looks aggressive and nice though IMO. Nice small wheel gaps and decent suspension stance, able to hold some large wheels (those look like 19s).

Still very far from being my kind of car.
