Cadillac Gives The Green Light To The XTS Sedan For 2012
General Motors has given the large Cadillac XTS sedan the green light. The car will launch next year as a 2012 model. What's the big deal? After all, this car has barely been under covers since GM emerged from bankruptcy last summer as the all-wheel-drive large sedan, based on the front-drive "Super Epsilon" platform, culminating in a "concept" reveal last January at the Detroit show.

LOVE IT!
I am so happy that Cadillac builds cars close to their concept designs. This car will be a hit if they can price it right and not over do it. Cadillac is guilty of a good base price but their packages and option pricing is extreme.
Good Luck Cadillac and welcome back.

Im confused as to where this car will slot in if its suppose to replace both the DTS and STS. Its to big to be a 5,E, XF competitor and it will likely be to expensive to be a true replacement for the DTS which starts in the low 40s..... and is technicaly not priced much more than the CTS and less than the smaller STS, unless they plan on moving the CTS up market in quality and price and introducing a smaller car I dont see how a large Cadillac flagship makes sense especially given the market...

You pretty much outlined their plan. ATS to be smaller than CTS RWD sedan/wagon/possibly coupe. DTS is large sized sedan and CTS will be near 5 series size. SRX compact crossover and BOF Escalade on the large end of the SUVs.

It still makes no sense to traditional Cadillac customers why would you go from a car that costs what about $43,000 to maybe $65,000(thats pushing it) to a car that if its going to compete with the S class, and 7 set will have to command a price above the STS seriously it sounds like a hard sell when the people typically buy those car are used to buying a V8 full size Cadillac for no where near S, 7, XJ, or A8 money. If the DTS never existed the XTS would make sense but as is it makes no sense. Theyve been making full size cars priced at what the CTS is going for or the STS V6

I don't disagree with your assessment but from rumors/reports/announcements that is their plan.

They need to extend the wheelbase to take full advantage of the body length. BMW or Mercedes would never ever allow the rear wheels to be that far forward as it doesn't allow you to show off the beauty of a large bodied sedan.

I don't see what you are complaining about.

im going to assume he means the overly large overhangs

Big rear overhang=big trunk.

If Audi can pull an all wheel drive A8 with rear wheel drive like proportions no excuse as to why Cadillac cant. Same goes for Bentley

We'll have to wait and see how close it comes to looking to the concept.

Joe Limon,
Look how much of the trunk is behind the rear wheels, all I'm saying is by pushing the rear wheels back just a little bit the car can show off it's large proportions better. This is something BMW commonly does by not only positioning the front wheels very far forward but by also keeping the rear wheels reasonably far back..I feel the wheelbase is crucial when dealing with big sedans.

I'm looking and I don't see that distance as a bad thing. You get a ton more trunk space (which is good because the batteries will eat away at this). And you decrease the polar moment of the car. It won't be as sporty as it's competitors, but it doesn't intend to be sporty in the first place.

Yeah but the A8 one doesnt have such large overhangs and 2, isnt based on a family sedan. Its like Toyota stretching the camry platform ie the avalon and making it into a Lexus.
