What's REALLY Happening With Cadillac's XTS?
**Thanks to LACMAN for the tip

Autoweek reports:

Reports have surfaced this week that the Cadillac XTS Platinum concept has received the green light.

That's not exactly true. We talked to Cadillac, and here's the inside dirt.

The XTS is a concept shown in January at the Detroit auto show. It has a hybrid powertrain churning 350 hp from a direct-injection 3.6-liter V6 and electric motor, all-wheel drive and flashy 20-inch wheels. The exterior is highlighted by a bold grille and elegant, flowing lines that marked the sheetmetal.

That concept is not headed directly to production as is.

“Nothing basically has taken place there,” spokesman David Caldwell said. “It's not a production car.”

Duh, of course the show car isn't going straight to production. But the XTS program is moving forward to production. That much is certain.

In previous discussions, it was said that the XTS in production form is as close to the XTS Platinum concept as the CTS Coupe concept and CTS Coupe production car is. Now they are saying otherwise. I think its because of the "thats it?" reaction to the XTS Platinum concept. Idk, just my 2cents...

If Cadillac comes out with a flagship sedan, which they really need in the lineup, then it's got to be a whole new design to spread to the other models. It shouldn't look like a stretched out CTS!

Agreed, why don't they make it "Sixteen-Esque"!

The biggest problem with the XTS concept is that it is front drive. I think they are back-pedalling on that decision because putting a front drive car up against the likes of the 7-Series and the S-Class is akin to suicide. Sure the A8 is based on a front-drive chassis, but with a dynamically competent front drive chassis to begin with and AWD, it can hold its own.
