RUMOR: The Corvette WILL Be Changed, Just Not For A Few Years
And, the grumblings continue...

Now it appears that a "GM insider" is leaking out word that the C8 -- not the C7 -- Corvette will be a monumental change from what we know as the traditional 'Vette. No longer will the legacy boast a V8 powerplant and have it lodged under the front hood, the latest suggests it will be a biturbo V6 producing around 440-horsepower.

This is not the first time this rumor has circulated, so, should we give it some credibility now?

Is this what the Corvette needs? If it were to come true, is this a mega disaster in the making?

Let us know in the comments below...

GTspirit reports:

Perhaps you have seen the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray concept. An amazing car which played a role as Autobot “Sideswipe” in the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen could see a future.

According to Autoweek, a senior GM insider indicated that the C7 will be the last of the traditional, old-style Corvettes...

Dropping the v8 will lose many purists. They would be much safer keeping a LS7 as an option.

Most Corvette owners opt for the auto option.

so? All mercedes are automatic and that doesn't stop them from using ridiculous engines.

Just fix that rear plastic bumper flex and that cheap interior and you will gain more buyers. No one wants to sit in a death box no matter how exciting it is.

Chevy can't be like Porsche and refine the traditional vette look. They haven't refined much over the years anyways. The old vettes are built better than the new ones so what does that say? Charge more if you have to get a good looking and high quality interior in. People will pay the extra bucks.

Give us a half decently built sports car and you'll see great sales. Another economy brand that has built a great performing car with satisfactory interior quality is Nissan with the GTR. It's not impossible.

if corvette had a gtr v6 engine i dont think purists would be too upset.. does it bother purists that a 4 cylinder toyota engine powers a Lotus Elise ?
the main thing is how it will perform.

-----------------------------------------------

There aren't a whole lot of Corvette "purists" around anyway. What's their to lose? The majority of Corvette buyers are probably the over 50 year old white male with gold chains around his neck.

The current Corvette, dynamically, is world class, yet it pretty much only sells in the US to the crowd mentioned above. It's sales have been steadily falling in recent years even as the Corvette has gotten to be a much better sports car.

GM should, and could, take the Corvette worldwide. I think by thinking global it will be a better sports car for the international market and it will sell better here also due to our import favored market.

Especially with new fuel economy regs, a powerful V6 which would provide similar performance to today's Corvette would be great! And of course, let's fix the only real shortcoming of the current Corvette, the interior!

do realize that I'm not shunning putting a v6 into it. I'm simply saying that the v8 should always remain an option.

people who don't understand why the corvette needs a v8 would never buy one anyway. trying to impress or please these people would be foolish. make the car better, but keep it true to what the following expects, or it will fail.

A Corvette without a V8 rumble? You might was well call the "C8" Cobalt SS.
