RUMOR: Mercedes-Benz Planning A Shooting Brake CLS

RUMOR: Mercedes-Benz Planning A Shooting Brake CLS
Autocar reports:

The upcoming Mercedes CLS estate will take inspiration from the classic shooting brake format.

The new wagon, conceived as a modern-day interpretation of the shooting brake, is set to be revealed in concept car form at next month’s Beijing motor show. Although billed as a concept, it will be extremely close to the production version that has already been signed off

Mercedes will also announce production plans for the new car, with a UK on-sale date of 2012 and a price of around £50,000.

The CLS estate is part of a broader plan to diversify the Mercedes line-up, with a range of niche cars adapted from more mainstream models and designed to appeal to a younger customer base than those on sale today...

I believe that this would fall under the newer R-class which has just been revealed.......

Wrong.

If you look at the rendering a bit closer, it is an estate. Plus, this is suppose to be based on the upcoming CLS, as the rendering's design includes such details. Note the grille and rear fender.

Granted, at first glance, it does look quite R-class-ish...

@B7FAN

Remember, this is a rendering.

Assuming this CLS-based Shooting Brake were to happen it would be a slinky and low rooflined coupe. Like the current CLS it would be all about form over function.

The R-class is reverse as it has more function over form. It would likely be taller and roomier in all directions.

There is plenty of space for both to survive.
