Does Hyundai Need A Performance Division To Become World Class?

Does Hyundai Need A Performance Division To Become World Class?
Most every top tier brand has a either an in house performance division, or at least a performance moniker to differentiate the performance models from the lessor models.

BMW has the "M" performance line, Mercedes-Benz with the AMG division, Audi's special division produces The S and RS lines and Lexus models are defined by the "F".  All of these are top manufacturers in their own right and clearly want to express their technical prowess.

Even the mainline companies such as Mazda (MazdaSpeed), and Toyota (G) either are currently creating performance variants of their own or will be in the near future.

Face it guys, even while the automotive sector is clearly focusing on fuel economy, these divisions will be there focusing on the performance fan.  While performance is not dead, it is also clearly changing from big and brawny engines to smaller yet equally powerful alternatives that will showcase the best facets of current technologies.

The future is on the wall and it is becoming increasingly apparent that if you want to run with THESE big boys, then you need to produce the big boy toys too.   So with this in mind, shouldn't Korean juggernaut Hyundai have a performance division?  Do they even need one? If so, what would it be like, and how would you define their direction?

They seem to be climbing the automotive social ladder pretty good without one. But I don't doubt they will go there at some point.

I think it's too early. They're doing a great job. We've seen some fine product over the last few years but they should give it a few more years until they can firmly establish themselves as a premium brand in the market place. It has been a large ship to turn away from their former direction of cheap and disposable cars. IF they move too early, they risk the danger of seeming to be irrelevant with one or two performance models but no real heritage to build them upon. Following Nissan's path would be much better than Mitsubishi's.

No not yet. They have to fix the sleazy dealer network as a first priority. Hyundai can't play with Toyota, Nissan or Honda until they can establish themselves as a middle class brand. Currently there still at the bottom-end.

I have own and drive both American and Japanese cars. I think I will even consider buying a Hyundai anytime soon because of the perception the made cheap and unreliable cars.

I know Hyundai has move improve on the quality of their cars a lot but they need to STOP Copying other brands design and paste it to their cars. Everytime one of their cars come out, you seed design cue from Toyota, Lexus, Infiniti, MB, AUDI and BMW on it.

My next ride will be an Infiniti G37 Sport Coupe Black Obsidian or Ivory Pearl. I've never driven or own a German car so I might consider getting a BMW 335i coupe white off course or an Audi S5 white as well.

You would probably be bettr off with the G37 or S5. My brother in law had a 335 coupe and traded it in a year later for the G37.
