BMW's Next-Gen M6 To Be No More? Instead, BMW To Go Head-To-Head W/ R8...
**Thanks to merce63amg for the tip!

Autocar reports:

BMW’s flagship M6 performance car is unlikely to be replaced when the next 6-series arrives, autocar.co.uk has learned.

Instead, its position at the top of the range is likely to be filled by a V8 sports car drawing cues from BMW’s Vision Efficient Dynamics concept.

The 6-series has gradually evolved into a grand tourer since its 2004 introduction rather than an out and out sports car; this has led to the M6, a car aimed primarily at US buyers, sitting awkwardly within the range. So a replacement isn’t likely to appear in next year’s new 6-series line-up...

I wouldn't mind, as long as it doesn't make people allude it to the R8 at first impression.

At first glance, this seems to be a good idea. The new sports car is what BMW should be all about. I am concerned, though, about BMW's apparent head strong rush to get into so many different niches. They seem to be losing some of that sharp edge and focus they had.

Since when was the 6-series an "outright sports car"? It was introduced as a GT (Grand Touring) vehicle, though impaired somewhat by the joke they call rear seats (inspired by a 911?) Combine that with, a soft, sedate form and a face that looks half-asleep, and you don't have the makings for a very desirable car.

Yes, and it's not like there is much to M-version anyway, since the 6 is getting built regardless. Sounds like a marketing decision, don't confuse customers with two models of the similar hp, even if there is an obvious difference in look and execution...and maybe a 1,000 lbs of weight.

This article is complete BS

The M is an integral option on the mainstream BMW Models and as long as there is a 3-Series / 5-Series & 6-Series { Either Coupe or Sedan Format } there will be M Versions of that model.

Sometimes a bit of Brain Activity before typing helps a lot.

Now if you say the M6 will no longer be the Flagship of the BMW Performance Models as they are going to build a vehicle to compete with the R8 then that is a different topic altogether.

This post is rediculous the 6 series for one has never been BMW's flagship and for two has never been an all out sports car it has always been a GT. The original 6 and 6csi were never desighned as full on sports cars or to top the lineup that was the job of the 8 series and the 7 series the M6 convertible simply the most expensive M badged car. How would a sports car replace a luxury GT??? makes no sense

This makes sense considering I have not seen any spy photos of a 6 series hardtop coupe yet, only the hardtop convertible. This will make the 6 more desirable because it will be a focused elegant luxury GT. Instead of trying to play two roles, as GT and 911 turbo competitor. And now BMW will supposedly make a purpose built top end sports car which would be great! Its a win win situation for the consumer.
