NEW YORK AUTO SHOW: Is Aston's Rapide A Timeless Classic OR Out Of Time?

NEW YORK AUTO SHOW: Is Aston's Rapide A Timeless Classic OR Out Of Time?
When you ask any automotive enthusiast what they think is the most elegant looking sports car, there is a reasonable chance they will answer "Aston Martin." This is the company that has essentially taken a Ferrari and a Bentley and smashed them together, repeatedly, until the end result was an Aston.

And being that we are the 00's of the auto industry, you know we love our Bond gadgets.

With that said though, not everyone agrees. Speaking with industry contacts about the latest Aston, the Rapide, it seems that there is some dissension; people are beginning to find the Rapide's design bland and uninspiring.

And when you think about it, you cannot entirely blame them because the Rapide is a stretched and pulled DB9, essentially. The design is not tremendously unique.

That does not mean it is not beautiful though!

Originally, I was not too sold on yet another four-door coupe but when you see this car in the flesh it is astonishing. Particularly the interior.

Take a look below and discuss, is the Aston too late to the market or is it going to be a timeless classic?

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. On looks alone, this blows the Panamara out of the water. I love it.

I like the styling, it's a timeless classic to me. It sounds great too but performance wise the Panamera and the CLS is the best. Of course no one who ever buys a car of this beauty will ever care about how fast it goes around a corner or in a straight line. They're all head turners though, it's just the Rapide is an eye-catcher.

Well, it did take a loooooooong time to get to market. Heck a fully developed proto was at the 06' NAIAS and that was 4 years ago....

I think it would have been better if the Rapide was based off of the DBS w/its aggressive body and alcantara interior. Maybe we'll see this in the future......

it seemed like everyone complained that the old subarus didn't have window frames, will they complain about this aston not having them too?

Its awesome! Its an Aston.

At this level, there is a minimum level of performance that must be met (and it is) but after that, its is all about style, class, and exclusivity.

For example, in LA a successful actor or director might drive the Panamera, but a producer would choose the Aston everytime.

I like it a lot especially considering it a 4 door coupe (yes...yes.. I know there is NO such thing as a 4 door coupe). In my opinion I think the best looking Aston Martin are the Aston Martin V8 Vantage and Aston Martin DBS.
