Volkswagen Polo takes the ‘2010 World Car of the Year’ award
The Volkswagen Polo received today at the New York Auto Show its biggest award: the 2010 World Car of the Year. Merit, value, safety, environment, significance and emotional appeal: these are the words that made the Polo a winner in front of the top three contenders for World Car of the Year a.k.a. Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the Toyota Prius and the Volkswagen Polo.

The new award was received on in New York City on Thursday morning by Walter de Silva, Vw’s head of design. For those who don’t know, the World Car of the Year award is not new to Vw as the German manufacturer grabbed in 2009 the same award with its popular Golf.

Congrats VW, but I find the 2011 Ford Fiesta much more appealing in every way.

I find it's competition amusing, Did it win for being the most unreliable car? Although it does look great and performs well, safety is great, but its just a no go in my books with expensive parts and unreliability.

Yeah? How do you know it's unreliable? What does Toyota Reports mean with "unreliable" anyway? In my circle of friends there are a few VW owners and they love their cars. If those cars were as "unreliable" as Toyota Reports claim they are then I am sure there would be no love lost between owner and car. Also, in Europe, VW gets good marks for quality and reliability.

Oh, and Toyota's quality and reliability performance has bombed recently.

It is well known that VWs in Europe are more reliable because they are not made by Mexicans, I think that VWs are nice but in my circles everyone I know with them have horror stories about people that just bought a VW and had nothing but problems, I think that they are innovative and sporty and well engineered but a bad record.

I find it humerous that it got World Car of The Year when it is not sold in one of the LARGEST markets in the World. Sorry, that is a FAIL since it is not here in the U.S.

+2 on the Fiesta being more appealing. The Polo is a miniature Golf, yawn.
